Question Where do you pig hunt?

So me and my dad are trying to plan a pig hunt for this spring and we are having some trouble finding a place to hunt that isn't across the country for us. We are in MN and have been looking in Tennessee and Missouri. Looks like Missouri banned public pig hunting so we would have to find private land there.

Let get straight to the point, where do you hunt?

We mainly want to stalk are prey. Not a fan of hunting by feeders or hunting with dogs.

I have not done it, but I know somebody that went there. It was like $850 for 2 days (lodging included) with hog processing too. 300 blackout - 2 rounds kill.
Muddy conditions was what he said. Two tanks of gas from KC to get there, and two back.

I hunt the little piggy that went to market.
Never the one that stayed home.
The roast beef eating one never appealed to me.
I felt sorry for the one that had none.
Never even tried to catch the one that went wee wee wee all the way home.

I live in north Georgia and I'm also looking for pig hunting land
Preferably public land if I can't get some private land owners permission
I've read there are some pigs in this part of the state
But most are in the southern half

Lurp, do you mind hunting in California?

With only a little over 250k hunting licenses issued annually here now-a-days the hunting has been good, almost too good, especially the pigs. I say almost too good because the pig population is exploding here, they are pests for a lot of Californian's, in parts of San Jose they roam residential neighborhoods in the south and east sides of the city tearing up lawns and landscaping, it's a big problem for the Silicon Valley Techie's who won't take matters into their own hands...

I hunt up north in southern Humboldt county, private land, but there are good public land areas east of Sacramento and south of Salinas, guided hunts are easy to find and go anywhere from $600 to $1100 and you'll typically get to pick and choose the size and sex you want.

There's a great chat group on Facebook, Northern California Pig Hunters is it's name, it's a closed group but anyone can join, it's a great resource for pig hunters in NorCal and you can find vetted guides there too.

Hope that helps. Good hunting to you and yours, Lurp.

Thanks from Lurp

I don't have a German Jadgschein yet so I cannot hunt here. Italy is another story. I can hunt on private land with the owner's permission and participation in that hunt to supervise. Also, I get invited from time to time to managed hunts. this is done under the supervision of the local forest ranger and the lack of a license can be excused upon knowing the right person to vouch for you and a showing of weapons competence.

Getting a license in Germany takes about a year and a few thousand dollars in course materials and fees. My German isn't good enough yet to do it.

Thanks from m14brian

JerryS, don't you have to show shooting proficiency on a running target to get your Jadgschein?

I've hunted pheasant with my wife's Italian Uncle and Cousins in northern Italy around Colico/Lake Como. All private land corn fields, my Uncle-In-Law lent me a beautiful 20ga. SxS Beretta to hunt with, man that was a lot of fun and on the first day I met them all; I think they were testing me, I got 3 nice roosters that day...I passed

I do but it isn't a problem. I finished 15th in the German national championships of Olympic Skeet a few years back. I travel around Europe competing in Olympic Skeet events. I am pretty good.

I got to shoot a SxS that Hemingway had borrowed on a hunt in Italy back in the day. It belonged to the grandfather of the club owner at Melzo or Arluna in Milan (don't recall which) and he loaned it to Hemingwway for an impromptu hunt he happened to find himself on during a trip to Italy.

Thumbs up

All kinds of places here in north Florida to hog hunt. They are available year round, no special season like deer and other species. I know folks that have 100s of acres that hunt hogs all year round.

Lots of clubs here too, just google em !

I'm in Kansas where it's illegal.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around why...
