Marine Corps League looking for an M1.

The Delaware County Detachment (Penna.) of the Marine Corps League is looking to obtain an M1 Garand for a fund raising raffle.

It's important that it be unaltered and as original as possible.

Condition is a big factor.

Out budget allows for a maximum of $700. but we are hoping for a good deal.

We would like to try this before going to CMP so we can see what we are getting.

If you have one that you would be willing to part with for a good cause, send an E-mail to:
vivapuccini@verizon.net and we will respond right away.

Thanks

You'll have a hard time finding a "Correct" Garand for a Raffle for that cheap...but it's possible.

I'd suggest CMP asap, you'll have a good chance for an all-original USGI within your budget....and straight from CMP counts for something. The new "Special Grades" look very nice and could well be considered collectibles...imho.

Post war, or WW2? My guess would be CMP. Good luck finding a WW2 gun.

MCL M1 Garand

The pedigree of the Garand is not the primary concern.
What we are looking for is one that is basically sound and
cosmetically suitable.

We are not looking for a perfect in all sense Garand, but one that
was well cared for and is typical of the model.

We plan the raffle to be primarily among all the veterans groups.
200 tickets maximum at $20. per ticket.

We are raising funds for upcoming repairs to our detachment home.

just a thought

I know that you said your budget allows for $700, but for $200 more you can get a cmp service grade special. I have five of them and they are like brand new with correct parts. They have new stocks which keeps them from being correct grade. That being said, all the HRAs had a "correct" tag on the stacking loop. The only down side is that they are high numbered. As close to new as you will get.

CMP M1 special

Yes, I see your point.

Theres a part of me that agrees with you but a lot of guys in the league seem to lean toward one that has all GI parts and wood, at least.

I'll have to wait and see if we get any offers.
This item is on 3 forums.

You know how Marine vets can get.
It might be old and crusty but it's REAL.

Just like them.

Why's there even a discussion here?
CMP sells USGI Surplus Garands.
Their regular price is well within your budget, and it will be GENUINE USGI with a U-S Military Pedigree and the paperwork to prove it from Uncle Sam.

Call them and ask for what you need. You may be surprised...but there is a backlog for orders so don't be wasting time.

See if anyone is at Camp Perry shooting this weekend. They could buy one at the store and bring it back for you. No waiting, and they could even pick the nicest of the 100 or so that are in the racks.

The certificate would be in their name, but that should not be a big deal.

Transfer it through a local FFL, and it would be legit.

M1 for MCL

Yes,
we have considered asking CMP to help us with a hand pick.
That may be the way to go in the end.

We just thought to ask the Marine Vet community first.

CMP is good but it's still a crap shoot in the end.

You pay your money and take your chances.

These ads are just a shot in the dark.

If they don't work out we go to CMP and ask for consideration.

We'll see how it goes if this doesn't work.

Don't ever count out CMP for delivering a much better grade rifle than expected.
I'd recommend a phone call to them, explain exactly what you're looking for, and they do whatever it takes to get you the best M1 possible.
They also back up what they sell 100%.
They may even have some Marines working there to take special care of your request.

They have an excellent website at http://www.odcmp.com/

Garand for MCL

Yep, we already talked to them about that.
They said if we made a request on our letterhead they would try to accomodate us.

So, if these ads don't bear fruit then we go to CMP.
But, I think the extra money for the high grade M1 is the way to go.

Thanks,
Gerry
