Just reading these posts gets me a little choked up. I wanted to be a Marine since I can remember. I tried getting my parents to send me to military school. (how many teenagers in the 70"s asked for that?) but they wouldn't. Tried to get them to sign for me to go in at 17, no luck. They did let me sign up delayed entry my junior year. Two weeks after graduation, I was on my way to MCRD.
I've made a few bad decisions in my day but joining the Corps was the best one I ever made! I look back on it almost daily & catch myself smiling.
Marines are indeed a special breed. There is a brotherhood among them that is unexplainable to those that haven't "been there".
It was my honor to serve in the Corps.

I've had some proud moments in my life.

Being rewarded the title "Marine" is one of my life's greatest achievements.

Senility and a broke down body will not diminish that.

Be proud, my band of brothers.

Thumbs up Marines

Never saw combat. No hero here. Pretty mundane. But one of the proudest days of my life was graduation. My Mother & father,(WW2 Marine), being there and being bestowed the title of Marine. Can't believe that was 42 years ago!

Great thread! For those who continue to support the Marine Corps and its goals and aren't already Marine Corps League members, we need you! It doesn't matter if there's no conveniently located detachment, as Honorably Discharged Marines with over ninety days service you are eligible to join as a member at large and choose a local detachment later. As a league member in good standing for one year, you are then eligible to join the Military Order of Devil Dogs. Both organizations provide assistance to all Marines, both active duty and otherwise. The cost of joining the league is minimal and applications can be downloaded from the Marine Corps League national website.

Semper Fi!
