| Wheres your cover, Marine?
Is it just me or did the rules change? On television and in person at public events I see military personal walking around
outdoors without there cover. I even saw a general in uniform being interviewed outdoors and he did not have his cover on.
When I was in the Marines you got chewed out or written up if you were out of uniform.
Also, when we traveled in public (not work details) we had to be in some type of dress uniform. It seems everyone is in there BDU's nowadays. Any thoughts??

A lot of service regulations have changed of what you can wear and when because of so many people living off of base. But unless you are on the flight line a cover or a hat is still required IMHO. Maybe its because we have a generation of men who think a ball cap is made to wear backwards. Its a pet peeve of mine because I can't find a hat that looks right on my head because they seem to be designed to be worn backwards.

Many times when I fly I see troops in the airports or onboard aircraft in their BDU's. I remember when I travelled ... it was Class A's only.
God help you if you had been travelling in your fatigue uniform. |

Covers are still required and walking around with cammies in civilian land is something only the Army does.

i've seen army and air force wearing cammies off base in air ports and around town, some with covers some without. have yet to see any marines in cammies outside of any base, i know it was changed back around 81' that you could wear cammies off base while i was stationed at 2nd mar div, before that you had to change into your civies.

You are only allowed to wear your cammies to and from your home and your duty station...obviously emergencies notwithstanding.

When I was stationed in tustin from 86-92, they allowed us to get gas and go to the bank in uniform. It changed toward the end of my enlistment. Before then, nada! |

i just got out aug 30 from MCAS Yuma AZ in the air wing which is pretty laid back especially me because i have been night crew for almost the entire 4yrs i spent there. if your on the flight line you don't need it, once you leave threw the turn style you put your cover on. we wear coveralls which are not allowed anywhere other than work, chow hall, to and from work that's even on base. coveralls are like the dirty secret of the marines that they don't want anyone to know about. as far as traveling to a new unite goes most people go in civies but when they have to check in then they change into class "A"s to meet the SgtMaj or who ever else. marines are not allowed to go anywhere in camies off base all though i see some people doing it, funny thing is i have seen only higher ups do it WO2 and a master guns. we never travel in camies like the army unless the entire unite is going somewhere (deployments) or while on duty/official business. I once had to go to the local hospital with a marine because he got punched in the face a few times while i was on duty at the bks. most people who don't live in the bks or have been in a while come to work in civies and change into a uniform in the shop.
