Question What MOS?

Hey, along the same lines as the other threads, what MOS' do we have represented on the forum?

I was a 2841, ground radio repairman. Got the joy of spending 9 months for MOS training out in 29 Palms...

(but spent my time with a buncha 08's in 1/10)

I'm an 0331 Machinegunner. Spent 4 years in Camp Lejeune, NC then three in Bangor (Silverdale) WA guarding the Navy's Submarines and just got to Okinawa Japan last week.

0311 in 2nd plt. , after two years got switched to Weapons plt. cause they needed people. After some on the job training I was an unofficial 0331.
I carried a M9 along with the M60 and my pistol expert qual. landed me a spot on 3 / 7 's team for the 1988 Western Division Matches. This got me the additional MOS of 8531 marksmanship instructor.

Thumbs up Shore Party Up!

When I started we were 1381's and was assigned to Division Support Group. We later joined FSSG (79 I think) and in 82 or 83 they redesignated our MOS as 0481 and moved us to Logistics (04) as opposed to Engineer field (1300's).

Additional info: I don't know what year this transition happened but Landing Support BN. Was Merged with Motor Transport BN to make Transportation BN. This was purely a move to combine Admin units in an effort during downsizing of the Corps to make us leaner and keep more shooters.

I thought doing Helo Support (Helo lifts) was the cats meow. I enjoyed doing Beach Opps and Arrival Air Control Groups / Departure Air Control Groups.

2147 LAV Repairman. Ordinance Vehicle Repair School at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. The only Ordinance Vehicle there in '96 were LAV's and its variants but back in the '70s all the self propelled arty variants etc were taught there. The Arty Gun Mechanics were 1 classroom shed down the road and the 2111 small arms repair school was close by also.

Attended Basic Electronics, Radio Fundamentals School, and Ground Radio Repair Class at MCRD San Diego in 1968. I finished in the top three scholastically and had my pick of duty stations so I chose Recon School! The company gunny told me that I couldn't go to Recon School and sent me to the Air Wing instead .

I was sent to MTDS (Marine Tactical Data Systems) school near San Francisco. Once I was finally out of school, I had a pretty good job. Went to practically every MCAS that supported the Tactical Data System, The East Coast, the West Coast and all over WESTPAC.

In retrospect, Gunny Durant probably saved my life by talking me out of Recon. I was pretty crazy and very gung-ho back then.
