From the linked interview...
Question: "Do you think you can pilot a helicopter if needed?
Answer: "I could fly it to the scene of the crash."
Great answer from a true American hero.

Greetings from the land of the counterfeit commandantress!
Happy to hear that there are still Marine Hueys! My outfit had H-34's and all that we could see of the pilots was their feet, so not much chance of filling-in in a tight spot. Doubt that there are many H-34's in an up status with the original plants anymore but the Hueys must be approaching a fifty year service span. Our birds have gone the way of the HOK, CH-37C and R4D.
Semper Fi and keep 'em flying!

Juggernaut, Bloodsport and Cheese Tortellini. That's a Marine for sure.
Ooh-Rah and Semper Fi. Always a rifleman first. |

They are, there is a new Cobra AH1-Z!!! There has been so many revisions that the Corps has gotten to Z, and the huey is now a "Y" Great birds. I did alot of raids via the old girl.

The scene of the crash answer cracked me up also. Good on him for doing what he did.
I also liked his "I'm a skid-kid at heart" comment, Hueys are one of my favorite helicopters..

Yes the new UH-1Y Venom and AH-1Z Viper platforms (No one actually calls them these names, they are still known as Huey and Cobra) have 70% parts compatibility, and brand new, more powerful T700 engines to boot. Both of these birds are now faster and more maneuverable than the Apache and Blackhawk. When I flew on these birds, they were still the UH-1N and AH-1W, and the Huey didn't have enough power to carry 2 miniguns at the same time (due to the weight of 1000s of rds of ammo) or a full auxiliary fuel bag - if we flew with rocket pods installed, the minigun and .50 were replaced with M240s and only a couple hundred rounds, and the aux fuel was empty. Now the Y model has the power to carry 2 miniguns, 2-7shot rocket pods, a full auxiliary fuel bag, a fat pilot, and up to 12 Troops (very snugly, but there are provisions that can be installed). Instead of adopting the UH-60 platform like many had wished, the Marine Corps decided to keep the Huey as primarily a gunship, and a superb job it does at it. I miss those days.

BRAVO ZULU to your Pard and I loved reading the article. When I see young men such as him and others, I still have a glimmer of hope for this Nation… Quote:
