Happy to hear that there are still Marine Hueys! My outfit had H-34's and all that we could see of the pilots was their feet, so not much chance of filling-in in a tight spot. Doubt that there are many H-34's in an up status with the original plants anymore but the Hueys must be approaching a fifty year service span. Our birds have gone the way of the HOK, CH-37C and R4D.

Semper Fi and keep 'em flying!

I too rode on the H-34s. A friend of mine who is a retired Army pilot told me the 34s were equipped with turbine engines and were sold over seas. He said they turned out to be very successful.

They did sell some over seas and there were some even manufactured in France I beleive. The turbine models were big in Great Britain and Canada. There were a few doing service as flying cranes for high rise work in the US. There are at least five still flying that I know of. Here is a link to three. http://marine73110.tripod.com/id4.html

There may be more flying now as there were a couple more being restored last reunion I attended. The last active duty Marine H-34 squadron was decommissioned in 1969. The last 34 in the reserves was 1971, HMM776 near Chicago.

My dad got one of those a few years back for bringing home his B-24 after enemy flak exploded in the cockpit.

God, he looks like just a kid! God bless 'im, though, and each and every one of that generation of Americans, for ALL they did for us. It is a debt that can NEVER be fully repaid, except to keep this country steady on the course which they themselves charted.
