| Young Manufacturing BCG for the DPMS style 308
Talked with the folks at Young. Not on their website, but they are offering BCG's for the DMPS style 308 AR's. Carrier Groups will be available for shipping in a week or so, bolts in about 3 months.
The carrier is $190 - Match Carrier, hard chromed. No price on the bolts yet.
Up until now, my biggest lament on the DPMS style uppers was having to use the DPMS BCG. They are not bad, but their quality control can be hit or miss at times.
I noticed that SI Defense has a BCG they are selling, but that has bee n in the "preorder" stage for 5 months now. And $165 for just a carrier assembly from a new player who has been taking preorders for 5 months seemed like a little bit of a bet to me.

Don't know for sure. I'll let you know in a week or so when my order comes in.
I know that Young has been making the BCG's as OEM parts for a few of the upper tier manufacturers.

Between this and Mega Machine's MA-TEN receiver set, life is looking good for AR-10 builders |

Just got the carrier. Key is not staked, and has forward assist cuts. But it is a thing of beauty!
I may be to work out the MOACK on the key.

Hi, I want to build my own AR in .308. I know some things in building a rifle which I learnt from my uncle who is involve in the business since along time. So I know the lower barrel and bolt need to be special for caliber, for this a stronger caliber would be needed but what about the upper. 308 ar manufacturers |

Greetings,
Hi ricky350! The major parts for a 7.62 AR type rifle are ALL completely different from those for a 5.56. This includes the upper, lower, barrel, mags, bolt assembly, bolt carrier, charging handle, and likely a few other things. It's pretty much the small parts and the fire control system that are interchangeable. Please do some reading before you order any parts and take the chance of having compatibility issues. I'm sure there is a complete list somewhere (perhaps at ar15.com).
Regards, Jim

ricky 350, As Jim-analog points out, very little from the small platform (AR-15) guns is interchangable with those of the large platform ARs. Besides the size difference between the two platforms, unlike the AR-15 there's no mil spec for the large platform guns, so there are a number of different (non interchangable) patterns out there. Two of the most widly adopted, are the DPMS/Knights and the Armalite/Noveske, along with some others that have proprietary manufacturer parts that fit no one elses guns. The bolts and barrel extensions are different between the DPMS and Armalite pattern guns and should not be mixed, the Magazines also, up until this year you couldn't get Pmags for the Armalite guns,(just the DPMS/Knights) that has changed, but as far as I know, the pmags for one pattern do not work in the other. You just need to do your homework in order to avoid getting parts that will not work together for your build. On a positive note, the quality and range of parts available has really increased, so you can now build a large platform, (.308,.260,.338 Fed) AR that is accurate, reliable, and durable.

Greetings,
A few years ago, I wanted to build a 7.62 AR and was pretty confused by the "non-standards" and the potential incompatibility issues. After checking around and looking at parts for quite some time, I ended up buying an Armalite and doing some customization to suite my personal tastes. FWIW, it's a really nice rifle and I have no regrets. If you go with them, wait till they have a sale (pretty frequently) to stock up on mags; they can be a bit expensive at full price (BTW, they are VERY nice mags).
Regards, Jim
