Im getting my S&W MP MOE next week...I got crazy bills coming up...new SUV for the wife, and we need a bigger house for my growing family. I dig the iron sights on my AR, but I dont have a lot of cash for hooking it up with primo optics. Should I buy CDNN's budget optics or save my money and buy a decent reflex sight in a few months. I plan to use the AR for plinking and home defense. Sound off with your opinions.

Thanks - A FNG in RI GI2

Most Guys here would tell you to Buy The Best- Buy It Once.

I would say if you're able to save the money in a few months time to wait and get a better set up. I have no experience with the CDNN stuff but am a big believer in good optics. So wait- get proficient on the irons and then get what suits your shooting style best- magnified vs. non-magnified...

Your M&P 15 will be a great rifle- putting a low end optic on it would be a dis-service.

Grunt is right. You have a $1,000.00 rifle that I bet shoots close to MOA. Put glass on it that will take advantage of that and will not self destruct when you need it most. Look for deals on line, at gun shops, shows and Shot Gun News. You will be much happier! Trust me. Been there, done that and finally learned.

The only product I ever bought from CDNN and was content with was a couple of bayonets. The other times I purchased from them I sent the stuff back.

My views on optics are a bit different than most. I do not spend top dollar on optics, because frankly I don't like them. I shoot much better with irons as the magnification just makes the wobble more evident. I do not find much difference in optics once you get to the level of a Burris, Leupold, Nikon, etc. Avoid the cheap junk (Tasco, Simmons, Centerpoint, NcStar, etc.) and you will be content. Know the ballistics of your rounds and your shot distances prior to purchasing a scope. You do not want to buy a scope and then find out it doesn't have the necessary adjustment range in MOA.

There is no need to spend $1000 on a scope. The mount is much more important to repeatability than the scope is once you reach a decent level (ie metal on metal clicks, etc). If the mount moves you're screwed. You will have to re-zero the rifle. The scope moves in the mount. You have to re-zero the rifle. That's another reason I don't care for optics.

With irons it's just..OK...the target is at 250 yds. Cool...up 4 clicks. Bang. Target down.

I wouldn't even think of buying a scope for an AR-15 anyway. Get an Aimpoint or Eotech in that order. Trust me target acquisition is much superior with an Aimpoint. Eotech might have a slight advantage at distance, but with a home defense rig you want an Aimpoint. Put the dot on something and squeeze the trigger. Good luck...
