My new AR

Here is my new AR. Decided to give it a touch of retro styling, well kinda. Standard midlength flat top wearing a Type E surplus A1 stock, and new A2 grip and commercial M4 style hand guards. She's wearing a surplus carry handle sight for now. I'll eventually toss on a 1-4x scope when I have the funds. Until then I'll run her with irons.

Looks good I like it, what kind of barrel did you choose? How does it shoot?

This my cheap AR build. Been out of ARs for a few years now and wanted something that is cheap and my daughter can handle. It's just a PSA freedom barrel. Haven't gotten to the range with it yet so can't say yay or nay on that part yet. Hoping to go the first weekend of May. It balances real nice and I've told several of my old service friends that if this had been the A2 then the M4 would never have caught on.

Cool carbine, I like that style best with irons anyway. Would make a great truck/trunk gun.

Congratulations on your new AR. I bought one almost identical to yours last night (Sig Sauer M400 with a collapsible butt stock ) from a guy retiring. Great price. I like the “retro” look. I plan to leave mine at my cottage all summer. Its was still NIB so after I clean it up I will post pictures....

I guess I owe some semblance of a range report. Went out a couple Sundays back to zero it and see how it runs. It ran about 100 rounds of M193 and M855 perfectly. Tried some Tula and Monarch steel and it fired and ejected them fine but I think they were too underpowered to overcome the rifle buffer in a midweight. I just put together a second lower with a CAR stock, (adjustable for the ladies) and I will see how the carbine buffer handles the weak steal case junk.

Thanks from Dougboffl

I have many ARs and NEVER have had an issue with Wolf or any other Russian ammo. Latest is a mid-length with carbine stock and buffer. Yes- the Russian steel case it is not as powerful (.223 vs .556) but it works OK. I have NEVER had a case jam due to any type of coating "melting". Of course there are many factors, including port diameter and the chamber finishing- but just saying-

That and the triangle Vietnam furniture are the best looking AR's.

There that's all I can say without puking. I'm going to go hug each and every one of my M14's now for the blasphemy you made me speak.

Oh the steel case fired and extracted/ejected, but was under powered and didn't cycle the bolt far enough rearward enough to load the next round. That Tula is weak stuff, could actually feel the difference when fired. That is why I am going to try a carbine buffer next.

Personally, there is nothing wrong with the A2 stock... I like it and it's a very stable platform. I actually put a shorty A2 on my carbine, in lieu of a slider.

...and I like your M1 Carbine sling... it's what I have on my H-Bar and, believe it or not, my Socom16.

For a rifleman, I don't see how you can go wrong with the A2 the way it comes.

I like it.

I bought by first AR around '97 and it came with a pinned M4 stock and A2 handguard and grip. I immediately picked up an A2 stock at a gun show and ran it in this config for many years.

This stock is currently still in use while I wait for Magpul to finally release the new UBR.
