Were triangular carbine handguards ever used USGI ?

I thought the first Colt carbine had round hand guards. ?

Only the experimental Colt model 607 had triangle hand guards cut from regular length hand guards. There were 2 versions. One had the front of the standard size HGs cut, that required a custom larger front cap, the other had the rear of the HGs cut and needed a custom rear cap fitted. Pic below is of one that has the rear of the HGs cut.

Edit...one of the best things there was "5.56 timeline" that was on The Gun Zone, but TGZ is gone as well as the incredible history of the round and the rifle they had documented.

geardoc, are you wanting to do a 607?? If yes, I can hook you up with the arfcom members who make the replica 607 stock, another who makes both caps depending on which version you want to do as mentioned above.
