24 grains RL15 with a 77 Sierra, pretty much established as THE load for .223 match.

Not unlike 41.5 grains 4895 with a 168 Sierra was in .308 30 years ago.

I see yours are loaded quite long for single loading I assume? Is that load still safe at normal OAL? Been working on the just right recipe for my Colt Delta with that bullet. TAC is looking good and W846 also. Will try R15. Thanks.

Good eye WaM14Gunner, I scribbled at the range.
COAL=2.255" I left a "2" out. Doh!
Sierra OAL-2.260" what I have written on the target is definately "wrong"!
Thank you for catching that!

Thanks from WaM14gunner

Well I actually thought you loaded them long purposely, thanks for the clarification.

I developed this load to compete with the 77Gr. Black Hills Match ammo I have.
This load beats it consistantly for me.

Does that load shoot as well at 100 or does it do better out at 200 after it "settles down"? I know some subscribe to that notion and others don't, just curious with your set up.

Jaholder,
Where did you read about the .223 , 77gr. 24.0gr. of RL15 being "the" hot setup? I kept looking around, and it was like a National Secret.
It would have saved me a lot of test time.
I probably couldn't see the forrest for the trees again.

Careful with the miss read posts. I believe he said 24. gr. Not 41.

I'm pretty sure he would have found out that 41.0 would have been incorrect the first time he tried to put that much powder into a 223 case.

Thanks from nf1e

24.8 grains for Ramshot Tac in an LC case topped with a 77 gr smk was the best load I've ever fired through an AR . That was though a Shilen match barrel. 5 shots at a 100 was under .5".Thats the max load listed in the ramshot book for 5.56 NATO, not 223 Remington. I've found that max loads listed in any book for 223 are a good starting point for a 5.56 chamber.

Being a former Az shooter, all you have too do is hit a Match. Service Rifle Shooters are a blabby bunch they would have given you load data with more than one powder the rest would have been up too you.
