We put them through hell and back, good "hat rack" in this photo, NTA, Okinawa 1983. I preferred the sling bandage from my spare first aid kit in hot weather. USMC, 1371 Combat Engineers 83-89

At MCRD Parris Island in 1981, mine was a GM Hydramatic Division. The barrel was so old it didn't even have a chrome bore.

All of my later A1s were Colts.

My issue M16A1 in OSUT, at Ft Benning GA, was marked XM177E2 with an A1 upper and butt stock. Even back then I was issued weapons older than I was.

I built myself one with the typical retrofit parts found on the ones used in the 80s. Well except that weed catcher flash suppressor. But I do have a real A1 birdcage to put on should I feel the need.

USMC 0351 late 70's. We were issued M16A1's both with bird cage flash hiders and 3 prong. We liked 3 prong better because you could us them to twist and break the wire on C ration cases and ammo cases. Drove the armorers crazy.
