I plan on building a clone of one of them as soon as I get the receiver and SBR paperwork. But I like this last one I put together: 18" ss barrel .308

They're all pretty much the same to me. I know that certain factory rifles have better fit/finish, but I've never had a problem with any that I've tried. I've been known to just pick up whatever lower floats my boat at the moment (or where I can find a good deal) and then build it into whichever configuration I'm looking for at the time. My XTC rifle is a DCM model from DPMS; I've since put a White Oak barrel on it and a chromed carrier...works for me.

I've also machined a couple from forgings in the past (never again; TOO MUCH WORK for this guy...lol). All done on a manual Bridgeport following Ray-Vin's tutorial:

http://arlower.ray-vin.com/ar15/

I even made one that was supposedly for a travelling VN War memorial; never got to see the finished product though.

The SBR's are fun, and I've got a suppressed 10.5" that I like to mess with from time to time. I wouldn't mind having a couple more plain-jane 16" M4-style rifles to serve as "extras" for the family should the need arise; will probably pick them up as soon as a decent sale and the back account agree.

I've never had a .308 AR, but I did have one in 6.5 Creedmoor in the past. It was definitely a nice rifle, but it just didn't "talk" to me...so I got rid of it.

I wouldn't mind building an A1-style "tribute" rifle at some point; wish I would have picked up one of those complete kits (minus the lower) when they were plentiful and cheap; should've/could've/would've...

Also, I would really like to build a reproduction Colt 607 with its unique "moderator" and collapsible, shortened, A1 stock:

https://bpullignwolnet.dotster.com/r...rbGde/607.html

I've already got a stock cut-down for it, and I used to be in touch with a guy that was making repro stock hardware; I need to track him down again...

WRM, did that AR come in all FDE? I painted some of my parts that weren't factory FDE.

Nope; it was black like the rest of 'em. I've duracoated this one before in desert MARPAT (did a horrible job), then I stripped it and dipped it in desert MARPAT (didn't like how it came out), and then finally had it professionally refinished by Arizona Armory.

I have had many many AR15s

My favorite remains the A1 I built 30+ years ago.

For longer range shooting in an AR platform, I have a Rock River NM AR 15. I just completed a build on a 20" barrel 300 AAC/Blackout that I equipped with a Nikon P-300 and hope to shoot soon. If it shoots as good as it looks I am in business for a decent hog hunt!

As soon as I learn how to post photos on this forum I will add a couple to this post.

The one I carried in the '60's. Full auto and free ammo!

Look at the bottom of the page and click ( go advanced) then click on the little ass paper clip in the tool bar at the top. The rest is pretty easy. Took me awhile to figure it out too.

I'd be curious to hear what kind of range/drop you get out of that platform with full-power loads. I go back to IL every year for deer season, and there you can hunt with anything...except for a rifle. By reading the letter of the law, .300AAC qualifies for a pistol cartridge, and I thought about building a 20" "pistol" out of one of these.

LMT MRP, the only two I have left. solid upper and rail combination as it is all one piece. I can change barrels very easily.

I've really been enjoying my FNH AR-15. I had her for about a year and is stock from the factory, with 75 or 77 grain ammo she shoots like a dream. I think they make a good pair.

I expect to get a usable 150-200 yards out of this weapon with a supersonic round. I will see what happens when I actually get to shoot it since my outdoor range does allow me to go to 200 yards.

Awards Showcase

I like this one, it's a real blast at the range. It also shoots and functions very well without any FTF or FTE. And eats any brand of ammo I feed it.
