This is a discussion on The AR that takes AK mags MK Mutant within the M16 AR15 forums, part of the Rifle Forum category; This looks really interesting, now if they would just make one without the rail that would take Magpul handgaurds.
and didn't cost $1500.
I have always been fascinated with the concept of shooting the AK cartridge in an AR platform. I think MGI has the Hydra with the changeable barrels and magazine wells. I might be looking for this rifle sometime.
I can't speak for CMMG but I own and shoot the LAR-47. I love the rifle, with cheap wolf or tula it shoots really well. I hunt with the Privi lead nose jacketed bullets, looks like a 30-30 cartridge. Everything I or my wife has shot at with it didn't walk away, in fact I just had a sausage biscuit made from one of them. This ammo will shoot under 1 MOA, with or without the suppressor, very light and easy to manage suppressor makes it front heavy but recoil or muzzle rise not worth mentioning. This is why I don't reload for this caliber, have the equipment just don't use it.
Subsonic loads I do load. I cast a 180 grn hollow point wheel weight at 1080 fps. I've only shot at one critter with these, a large bobcat that kept running off game in my grass patch. Tried some 200 and 220 lead bullets I bought and accuracy was not that good.
I like the 7.62x39, wish I could get a 22" to 24" barrel made to try some different powders in.
As far as magazines go most all the metal ones I've tried work well. Some have to have the tab on rear slightly filed to easily fit. Mag pul Gen 3 have all worked as advertised.
I'm going to ruffle some feathers here but my opinion is the 7.62x39 in supersonic is superior to the 300 BLK, subsonic the 300 BLK is ahead due to the ability to shoot a bullet thats are 40 to 50 grns. heavier. Maybe rock river will make one with a faster twist rate.
