M15A4-SPR Weapon Inhancements

Hey Guys hope you all are doing well! Well I own a M15A4-SPR with a L3 EOTech XPS2-2 scope! And was needing some info on what I can add to this weapon to make it even more pleasurable to shoot. It's awesome as is but I was looking to improve the lowers handle and maybe add iron sights for a backup! And was wondering if a magnifier would be a good idea to reach out and touch the target at greater distances. I love this weapon and it's accurate as hell! I got it sighted right now at 50 yards because I went to a indoor range because the outdoor range was closed the day I went to fire it! And the indoor was only 50 yards! I got 20 round grouping the size of donut all bullseye! The lowers handle just felt hard in my hand was thinking of a more softer handle more for comfort then anything! And maybe add a bi-pod for even more accuracy![IMG][/IMG]

Eotech makes a 3X magnifier that will line up with the XPS-2. If you want something more than that, you will need another optic.

What kind of barrel comp are you using? Have you considered the PWS 556 or the battlecomp by BCM? 2 stage KAC or geisselle trigger may help as well.

Otherwise it looks good!

There are any number of AR-15 pistol grips out there. I use the Tango Down and like it. However, it's been a long time since I built
My AR, and I'm not sure if they still make that one or not. The Eotech is a great CQB type sight, and I have one on my AR, but the dot covers too much of the target to do much precision bench shooting IMHO. Never tried it wih a magnifier because of the prohibitive cost. The best thing you can do for an AR, accuracy wise, is to get a good trigger and float the bbl. (emphasis on trigger) other than that they tend to shoot circles around a lot of other rifles. ( sad to say, but M1A included) the littler suckers just flat shoot!

The tango downs are still being made, but I think he's looking for more of a hogue style grip, one of the soft rubber guys. I have a tango down on one of my ar's which i really like, and was thinking about getting a magpul grip for my next build

Thanks from GARRARD

I have a Aimpoint with a 3x magnifier, and while it is a nice set up, for the price it costs I could have gotten a pretty decent scope that would have done the same as the Aimpoint and more. If your goal is to shoot tight groups at distances of 200 yards and out get a scope.

The barrel is a 20" Double Lapped, Chrome Lined\Chrome Moly Vanadium MIL-B-11595-E, Threaded 1/2x28
And the Trigger: Tactical Two Stage, 1st Stage 3.5 lbs - 2nd Stage Approximately 5-6 lbs.

The Magnifier costs about the same as the EOtech sight which is no big deal! It's just that the gun dealer that I went too didn't have any in stock and I wasnt sure if that was the right way to go! It's just that if I do buy just a scope I am worried about mounting and dismounting the EOTech! The manufacture says that when you remount the EOTech it's approx 2 MOA off of center! And I got the EOTech dead nuts at 50 yards! I would like to be able to reach out and touch a target at a 100 yards or more! And with the Picatinny rail on the weapon will the long range scope be off more then 2 MOA when mounting and dismounting!

Hamstrosity... So who makes a softer grip because that's what I'm interested in! I want one that is soft but also will not hold onto debris if I have the handle in the dirt so to speak! You spoke of a Hogue style grip is that a grip that is kinda what I want or still kinda hard? It's more of a comfort thing more or less! And with the EOTech scope you can of coarse you know this but you can dial down the brightness so it dosent take up the whole target that you are shooting at! I do not want to over accessorize my gun by any means! I have seen some pretty funny looking weapons that people have IMHO have over accessorized to the point where I think it's laughable!

Well I picked up another optic for longer range shooting to see if i like it or not . I did some research on this scope before I bought it and everything I read was pretty solid! Its not an expensive scope but for what i read about it this scope beats out optics that are by far much more expensive UTG 30mm SWAT 3-12X44 Compact IE Scope with AO Mil-dot, 36 Colors EZ-TAP

It mounted really easy so i shall see when i take it to the range after i get my Pmags from Magpul ! I just hope that when i swap out this optic for the EOTech its pretty close on paper.

dont count on it, those UTG rings are not very good. But if the mechanism tracks , magnification is magnification.

I'd encourage you to go to a tactical gun shop, or hunting shop and look through some high dollar optics (better than gander mountain or academy would ever carry)

a list of scopes i might buy

Swarovski
Vortex
Nightforce
US Optics
Schimidt and bender
Burris
Weaver
Leupold
Carl Zeiss
Millet
Trijicon
Leatherwood
Redfield

UTG is not on the list. But hey sometimes you do alright. I have 3 chicom scopes that work great, tracking is perfect 1/4 moa, holds zero. the only downside is glass is blurry at high magnification, and not very bright at all.

My weaver japanese scope (the superslam) lights up just as bright as my acog. excellent glass for the money.

My chicom scope works great for 100 yard target shooting, if thats all your doing you'll have fun.

I do suggest that you shoot the scope and then if its good to go and you like it, maybe invest in some better rings. that will help it hold zero better with your eotech.

You will want to look at the standard hogue rubber grip. Look here for them: http://www.lapolicegear.com/hogue-ar15-rubber-grip.html

Many choices for back up sights. just keep in mind that you will need a metal front sight on the gas block. A plastic one will melt. Personally i would put a LMT fixed front sight on the gas block. That way if you want to use irons you wont grab a hot front sight to flip up. For the rear I would do any flip up sight that fits your needs. The magpul flip sights are nice so are the troy sights.

a 9-13 harris bipod would work nicely for you too. You will want to get a free float hand guard to mount the bipod. A free float hand guard will improve your accuracy and give you options for mounting things like the bipod or a light. your point of impact will change using a bipod If you mounted to the currant hand guard.

Good luck with your rifle. You wont stop with just 1.

W that length barrel you should be able to put the size group you district at 200 yards or better.

Buis sights all depends on what ya want and how accurate is accurate. Minute of man or MOA shooting?
With the EOTECH set up you have it limits you because the sight and magnifier take up so much space. I use the LaRue tactical flip to the side mount and chose Yankke Hill Machine Back Up Irons and they all just fit! Yankee hill is too notch stuff up there with LMT.
An issue ur gona run into is that more accurate and whiz bang stuff doesn't equate. With the space that's left on the rail getting an iron sight that has both Windage and elevation adjustment isnt gonna work. BUIS are minute of man and so is the eotech designed for the same. Both eyes open, CQB, react shooting. Not intended to blow the arse out of an ant at 500yrds. But with correct irons, or good glass as I said that rifle should be able to blow the arse out of a man at 500!

Well I took back the EOTech XPS2-2 and picked up an Optic for longer range shooting! The EOTech just took up to much of the target at 25 and 50 yards never mind the 100 yard range! The EOTech is diffidently made for CQB! I'm going to pick up an ACOG for close up stuff like plinking and or if the SHTF! I want to get good with this gun so I want to keep my options open and have some of both! Long and up close.[IMG][/IMG]
