Talking Almost finished with my VLTOR SBR! (PIC HEAVY)

Fellas,

I know I have been posting up a lot of pics lately of the ol' SBR, but I am excited as this thing is pretty much done!!! This is my very first tax stamp so I have been fondling it for the last week....my wife keeps rolling her eyes when she sees me around the house with it (including the john..lol) but I just keep smiling. Here is what I have on the build so far:

Upper: VLTOR MUR-1 w/ assist and deflector
Lower: Complete VLTOR VR lower with oversize magazine release
Stock: VLTOR Mod Stock (Dark Earth)
Pistol Grip: Tango Down Large Battle Grip (Dark Earth)
Trigger Guard: Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard (Dark Earth)
Magazines: Magpul P-Mags of course...(Dark Earth)
Buffer Tube: VLTOR 5 Position (Numbered in white)
Buffer/Spring: Spikes Tactical Heavy Buffer
Charging Handle: Bravo Co Gunfighter Large Latch
BCG: Spike's Tactical Nickel Boron Bolt Carrier Group
Hand Guard: VLTOR CASV-MT Carbine Free Float Hand Guard (Dark Earth)
Barrel: Ballistic Advantage LLC.'s 7.5" Stainless Steel and Chrome Lined
Muzzle Brake: Juggernaut Tactical Righthand Tactical CQB Brake
Gas Block: Sadlak Industried .750 Low Profile Clamp on Gas Block
Gas Tube: Spike's Tactical Pistol Length
Forward Grip: Surefire Light/Vertical Grip Combo with I.R. Lens Cover (yes that is a hint at whats going on her next week)
Selector: Battle Arms B.A.D.A.S.S. ambi selector
Optic: EOTech XPS2-0 "CQB" Brownells Edition Reticle w/ QD mount
Irons: Dueck Defense Rapid Transition Sights (Could not get a full co-witness with flip up sights, so had to go with the RTS sight)
Rail Covers: Magpul XTM Covers (Dark Earth) and Magpul XT Covers (Black)
Sling: Magpul MS3
Sling Mounts: One VLTOR QD Mount and One Magpul Rail Mount Attachment

So here it is as it sits today. The only change that I may make is the muzzle brake. I have a Noveske KX3 in the mail to be delivered by UPS on Monday. I guess I will try both and see which one I like or my rifle likes and stick with that. I am leaning towards the Juggernaut brake as it really looks nasty on there! Here she is:

Slick, some really nice parts there. One suggestion, silencer!

then it will be perfect.

Let us know how she groups and performs with that 7.5 barrel.

I have already been debating getting a can, just don't know which one and I hear the waits are even longer than form 1's! :( - I will be putting a nice treat on there in the next week or so...lets just say the I.R. stuff will come in really handy!

oh man!

Does the venting out of that Juggernaut cause any problems sitting that far back in the rail section?

The word is its takin a little over 6 months now for can paper work. I cant even start my paper work till I move. cant wait to start collecting NFA stuff.

As far as which one, I would look at it as: what fire arms i have that i would like to silence and put my money into one that will work on most of them. Like a gemtech halo or NT4 for any weapons with A2 flash hiders or battle comp 2.0s or a AAC 7.62 for any weapons with breakouts black outs and such. All preference, but the AAC and Gemtech seem to be more available and affordable. Others may have better opinions.

I.R. huh? sounds like you are holding back on some toys!

Just curious why you aren't using the Noveske KX-whatever brake?
the juggerbrake LOOKS bad to the bone though.
I am saving to start a damn trust, though my local sherif has be known to sign the forms.

Thank you everyone for the kind words! It had been over 6 months in the making and the hardest part besides the wait was finding the VLTOR lower receiver.

@ST33l: I will definately let you know how she groups and hopefully it isn't too terribly bad...but if it is wide, I am keeping in mind why I built it. 2-3 guns matches, CQB situations, home defense and maybe the apocolypse (zombire or otherwise). The barrel is from a local guy that used to turn Spike's barrels...I have owned about 10 of his barrels and I am always more than impressed with the perfomance and accuracy. Although I do have to say I have never had one so short! Can't wait to shoot it. As far as the toys go, I will be picking one of the major compenents up tomorrow...let's just say the zombies won't stand a chance at night! lol

@Jackolope: I will definately let you know. I will tell you that she sure is pretty and has an awfully weird feel when holding it in your hand. I have had the bolt for about 4 months and although I could have used it already in another rifle, I wanted to save her for the SBR. Glad I did.

@Dredsen: I haven't used the Noveske KX3 yet because it is enroute to my home via UPS. It will arrived on Monday. I am going to try and get out on Monday to shoot it, so I plan to try both and see which one works the best. I know that the Juggerbrake keeps the barrel about as still as it could ever be with it's design...after all, I had a hand in the improvement process! ;)

thats true, I guess the only reason to go kx3 would be to direct the blast away from you?

I actually am wondering if you will damage the VLTOR rail tube.

you may NEED the KX to keep the gases from burning the tube or your had if your not using a VG.

if nothing else i think it will superheat that vltor tube

any thoughts?

Yes that is truly the only thing I can see that would be nagtive about the Juggerbrake...not the brake itself, but how far it sits back into the handguard. I think not only would it be hot, but it may discolor the rail. With the KX3, ALL of the muzzle blast will be directed out of one hole and completely away from the handguard and shooters hands. I will try both and see which one works the best!
