| Need some advice, POLL
I live in communist NY where the gun laws are as stupid as the politicians. Not looking to start a debate on that I need your opinion. A couple of years ago I had a pre ban NM A2 upper built using a kreiger HBAR. This upper was put together at WOA. At this point you may be asking why sent out to have an upper built, they are so easy to assemble. Well WOA pins the rear sights, machines flats on the sides of the barrel and uses set screws to secure the front sight base. This is something I am not set up to do. I had it built with the intensions of finding and building a pre ban lower. I have not been able to find one yet so this upper will never see the light of day on the post ban lower I have. I don't need a felony charge, however I did sight it in. This rifle off of sand bags will consistently stay in the x ring on an SR-1 target. It is silly accurate. I sat there one day and shot 5 targets with it, same set up 100 yards off bags and five shots each and shot a 250 22x. It is hard to miss with this rife off bags.
Considering I can't find the pre ban lower, I recently sent a post ban krieger hbar to compass lake engineering to build into a NM upper. Same deal they machine fats and use set screws on the fsb. It came in yesterday and I have not had a chance to shoot it yet but I expect the same results as the pre ban upper with the same krieger barrel.
I am now looking to build an A2 carbine. I have a 16 inch krieger hbar that the rifle will be based on. Yes it has a rifle extension. i spoke to the folks at Compass Lake engineering about the build. I plan on using a small diameter JP rifles tac comp on this build. I am going to have CLE cut the barrel and re thread it as well as pin the tac comp (NY compliant again) so the overall length is 16 inches. It is a SS barrel. I plan on having them build it and adjust the fsb then remove the barrel with the delta ring and fsb still installed and I am going to have the barrel cerakoted black then reinstall the barrel myself. Seems like a lot of work just to have an A2 carbine but I know what I want.
So here is the dilemma. To save a few hundred dollars would you tear down the preban and use the BCG, A2 upper w/ pinned rear sight, FSB ect ect keeping in mind I have a post ban upper sitting there ready to go.
Or knowing how well it shoot would you bite the bullet and spend the coin for the extra parts needed keeping in mind the 100 or 150 dollars its going to cost to have the machine work done to the barrel as well as a hundred to have it cerakoted once it back. It seems to me it would be much more cost effective using the parts I have because, One I may never find a pre ban lower and two I can always build it back into and upper considering the machine work has already been done to the barrel.
