Estimate of time required to get finished results? Very well done, BTW.

Sponge technique.

After you paint the first color and let the paint dry HARD (3-4 days) you spray the second color on but not to the final demarcation line you want. You then decant (spray paint into a jar or other container) the second color and dab a sponge into it. Then lightly dab the color onto what's being painted along the line until it's what you want (or looks right). Depending on the pattern you want, use either a natural or synthetic sponge (different pore sizes). Experiment on scrap wood or cardboard to get the process down before you attempt on a gun as it does take some experience to get a good pattern down.

BTW, the German Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe used this procedure during WW II to good effect. Can you imagine taking a bucket of paint and a sponge and cammoing a Tiger or Focke Wulf -190?! That's what they did!

danatkins: I meant the line between the two colors...too much "book larnin'" and GI jargon :). It's really a very simple and effective technique and costs just the paint and your time. I've been doing this for years as I build models and this is used on many WW II German Luftwaffe aircraft and armor (Ambush camo). Simple thing to "upscale" to a firearm. With my stock of camo colors (from WW II to present) and airbrush, I can come up with some interesting schemes and color combinations!

Mindfield: They used that technique mainly for field expedient winter camouflage. Buckets of whitewash and brooms resulted in some very weird looking tanks and aircraft!!! Wish there was a book I could recommend that showed the results, but most just have 1-2 pictures showing actual vehicles painted as such.

Great look. Going to tuck this away for when I do my next paint job. Love the idea with the sponge.

Looks good. A compass in the stock, and this thing which tells time! Ralphie would be proud. :D

Excellent job! It does seem too dark for ATACS, but as long as you're happy with it, who cares?

I will definitely be trying my hand at this on my build. I wanted to try to replicate ATACS FG because I like the way ATACS patterns work, and this seems like the best method to get similar camo effectiveness.

It'd be really cool if you posted a few pics or a short video on this process, if you could.

Sorry I havent checked here in a while.
I'd say from start to finish was 5 days.
While I dont have pics or video from the process,
I'll post the pics I found that helped me out when I
wanted to do it.
Thank you all for the compliments, I'll get an updated pic up soon
