M76 Grenade Launcher

I have one of these M76 Grenade Luanchjng attachments in the can and I popes it open and slipped it over the flash hider just so I could have another mental picture of how these rifles were actually used at one point during its history. Does anyone know what grenades were used with the M76? I'm would imagine there was more than one type. Does anyone know where I could buy them? No I'm not looking for live grenades that's one rumor I don't need started. I would like to have an inert one to go along with my usless M76. I put all these items in the "my usless stuff box that I had to have for no good reason". So if anyone wants to part with some of there inert grenades from there usless stuff box let me know, I have room in mine. The M76 is right next to the garand grenade launcher sight. Don't ask that one was in my fathers usless stuff box I just inherited not to long ago

Check oldsargesdropzone - they had the M1A2 Adapters and repro grenades IIRC

They also launched Parachute Flares. The Grenade Launchers were designed for many items, including Anti Tank Rifle Grenades.

I want a Mk 87 rope thrower. Do you know how cool it would be to pull into the local marina, and from 100yds out crack one off over the docks to secure your jonboat? Someone is easing up to your favorite crappie stickup just ahead of you? No problemo with the Mk 87!!! Need to walk the dog, but just aint in the mood? Bang! Fluffy has a 100yd leash.

Way cool....

As mentioned above there was the adapter that took a hand frag to launch off the rifle, then there were the M30 HEAT and M31 practice grenades. You see the M31s pretty often at gun shows, surplus stores and on GB. Finding the grenade launching cartridges is a little tougher, but if you can find some clean ones there's no reason you can't launch an M31. It will get a little bent up, but depending on the terrain or backstop you might be able to fire one a few times.

Greetings,

Hi Warren! Could you post a photo of the launching device?

Regards, Jim

I remember back in 94' when my sub pulled into La Maddelina, Italy, the Submarine tender's line handlers had 4 sailors armed with M14's each set up with a 300 yd spool of orange shot line (similar to 550 but thiner) on the barrel and a blunt rubber projectile. We must have been 50 yds away and !!!Bang!!! they shot across our bow and tied off the lines to 3" diameter mooring lines. Pretty neat stuff!

Here are the pics of the launcher

I will look up that source. I know someone with one of the rope launchers. He didn't even know what he had.

82nd,
I've never come across a grenade launcher for the M14 but have added several models designed for the M1 to my personal pile of useless but "cool" stuff. Does make for an eye catching display at gun shows. Last I checked, used M31's were still available at Numrich.
A good friends youngest son is a Navy Gunners Mate and one of his duties is to fire the M14 line launcher when docking/refueling the carrier. How cool is that?

That's the exact one they used. We all had discussions on how much it'd hurt if you got hit center mass with that rubber dummy which was pretty hefty if I remember correctly.
