| Fred's M14 Stocks
I was perusing through Fred's list and came up with some more questions:
1) Has anyone purchased one of his, "Big Red Birch," stocks? If anyone has one and would be willing to share a picture I'd appreciate it.
2) Has anyone done any business with Fred? He admits that he's slow and that's not a disqualifier as long as he gets the order right once he gets to it. Any feedback?

I have mixed reviews on Fred's - one order finally came in (5 months wait) and was better than expected. A second order...well 14 months later I'm still waiting on those fiberglass stocks and handguards.

Strange that I saw this post. I ordered a stock from Fred's on 12/22/10. This weekend I decided to call and cancel the order. I was getting ready to call this afternoon when my wife came out to the shop and said I had a package in the garage. It was the walnut stock I had ordered. So almost 2 months to the day, I received it.
After 2 hours off and on of cleaning with denatured alcohol, I put a coat of Fairtrimmer on it. I think its going to be OK. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v7...e2/M14%20Stock
Bottom line: I am a satisfield customer of Fred's knowing he was going to be slow. But, if I was one of those whose orders had
not been shipped in 3 or more months, I would be pissed also..
Forgot to say that they included a free handguard with the stock and a nice note saying they appreciate my business. Maybe they're trying to do better....

Feedback, and experiances with FREDS should be posted in the Slop Chute, where there is a Fred's specific thread started. |

The slop chute is "read only" so it cannot be posted in.
This can be moved to the take stock forum, however, it will be on a short leash as this subject has been hashed and rehashed enough that most gow arrrgghh as soon as they see another Fred's thread.

I have an appointment with Fred tomorrow,(Wed)to look over some supposed, unissued stocks in person. I'm taking a barreled action with trigger group with me. I'm 45 minutes away so we'll see what we find.

I thought Fred was going out of business a year or two ago due to his involvement in the Appleseed program.

I have one of his Big Red Birch stocks. Took about a month to get it and it was in need of a good striping and refinish. The stock itself was in excellent service condition, no dents or dings to be found. It was not the presentation stock that he has just the regular Big Red. Fit was good and tight but it took more than just a wipe down to make it come to life. However, when I got finished with it, 'I was a happy camper'.

The following was posted in the latest edition of SGN in Fred's ad. In short, Fred's is now out of synthetic stocks. There might be a few laying around the warehouse, underneath other items. As we find them, they will be posted on Fred's website. So don't hold your breath on Fred. Other than the website, you might try Gun Parts aka Numerich Arms. dozier

I made an order w/ Fred's about a year ago and knew that it'd take a while for it to show up. Six months later a charge showed up on my CC from Fred's and I said, Cool, I should see my order soon.....two months later still no package. I called Fred's & talked to a guy that worked there and he swore up and down they never charged my CC for it and challenged me to prove it. Luckily, I still had the bill and it had a charge code on it - when I read it off to him he shut up and said he'd get back to me. I was done w/ them by then and told him to cancel my order and credit my CC - he said no way so I filed a dispute w/ my CC co. I got the credit back real fast after my CCC got involved.
Weird thing is I've actually had very good experiences w/ Fred's so was very disappointed.

I was planning on placing an order eventually with Fred's for a walnut stock and hopefully a GI fiberglass ( I know he is almost always out) but after reading about these wait times forget that! Not that a longer wait bothers me but to be so inconsistant with paying customers is just plain wrong. 14 months later??? Give me a break!
