My dealer has found a guy whos got some H&R receivers. He was supposed to order me one from springfield but held up on the order till he could tell me about these. The source told him they appear to be unissued M-14 recievers. He ordered one for someone else last week and told me it looked brand new. They are about 375.00. I know what to look for in a re-weld but I just hate to order it and be stuck with it if it is. Whats the word on H&R recievers ? Is this a good price for it ? Advice needed. Thanks TREY  ----Looks like Digger LOL
As far as $375 ... Thats a great price for an H&R receiver but something tells me that they are possibly re-welds because they are H&R (which are great .. don't get me wrong) and that they are the real deals from way back which you don't see to much of.
I can't say for sure as I am no expert but this is what it possibly sounds like ....
Maybe someone else with more knowledge than I can chime in here soon cause I definately do not wish to steer you wrong ....
A word of caution. M14 receivers are class 3. Is that how it is being presented to you, as an NFA class 3 firearm? If not then avoid it like the plague, reweld or not. You would not want to be found in possession of an unregistered machine gun.

Ill look into that. So all USGI recievers would be class III ? Is it like the difference in an AR-15 lower and an M-16 lower ? I was under the impression that all M-14 recievers are the same. Only a few "special" parts left out of our stuff. Sorry for the dumb ?s but Im still learning about this stuff. I may just say the hell with it and order a kit from Fulton. The H&R show would be nice though. My dealer is supposed to call me back. Hes going to inquire for me about the re-weld buisness. What question should I ask him conserning the class III issue?
Yes he is a reputable dealer. However his knowledge of military weapons as far as whats legal and whats not may be (as is mine ) somewhat limited. I mean he would know that an M-16 or full auto MP5 is class III. But this reciever thing would take a little more than just common knowledge. Thats why I came to you guys. Now I know a little something more. Even though you threw a wrench into my little engine. But now I understand. But anyway thanks for the info guys . Ill pass on this one. TREY
Bullet, the BATFE is concerned about the lug that would support the auto parts, and the location of the take-down notch in the receiver. They ruled about 25-30 years ago that "once a machinegun, always a machinegun". The only exception to that I'm aware of is the M1/M2 carbine. Sorry. However, unaltered H&R M14 receivers would be worth a few grand if legal. You could build a legal M14 out of them.
All the previous posters were correct in that original M-14 receivers are considered machine guns by the federal gov't. The receivers that are being offered to you are very likely re-welded USGI receivers, given the price that you were quoted. I'd also be willing to bet they were rewelded by a company out of Grafton West Virginia called M-K Specialties also known as MKS. These guys are (or I should say were) bad news. They came into posession of some M-14 receivers that had been demilitarized (e.g. cut in half) and were welding the matching sections and selling them as legal semi-autos. Problem was the ATF didn't consider them legal and confiscated them from their owners. Having pocketed their customer's money, MKS washed their hands of it and began producing new CNC milled forged receivers. They were patterned after the military versions and, again, ATF disputed their legality and confiscated those as well. I know several guys that were out thousands of dollars worth of receivers. I guess I was lucky in that I only lost one at $600. Anyway there are still a few of the receivers floating around (both welded and new) that ATF hasn't been able to round up yet. Some guys will try to dump them on an unsuspecting buyer so they won't lose their money. My advice is to stay away from this transaction. Get yourself a nice SA Inc, Armscorp, or better yet a Polytech !
Good luck.
