How does your standard M1A shoot?

My cousin and me have grouped my Standard with Power Shock from Federal and Winchester ball and it shoot's well within 1.5 inches. One of the guy's who runs the range said that my Standard is uncommonly accurate. He shoot's competition with a match M1A.

I just want to know what kind of accuracy people are getting from their standard M1A's?

Are the groups 3, 5, or 10 shots. and are they fired consistent. Art

how dose my standard shoot.......

echo5kilo, i've been spoiled on acuracy on my 89 m1a.win.barrel,trw bolt hr op.rod&hr triger grp. shot any surp. ammo(mostly m80ball ah. the good old days..and cheap then too.) into 2'100yds. my150gr.mk into 1 to 11/2 all day..that m1a has become a safe qwen, after it's last rebuild. my current m1a dose not hold the 89 jock.it's an 06 m1a best grp.was from that litw.ball thats folting around11/2 5shot grp. BUT not consitant. mater of fact i'm currently shooting chinnies ball out it that if i do my part it dose13/4 to 2' if i do my part. BUT in all fairness, i did find my front sight /muzzel brake loose, could goup one day ow look what i found loose .......so i tightend it. (can't wait till those 22'chr.line barrels become available jywolf.) so thats how my current m1a shoots, lots of fliers too.....

Standard M1A's shoot about 2.0 - 2.5 MOA. That is as good as it gets without the NM modifications. This also has a lot to do with the particular stock fit of the rifle. I have a standard rifle that will shoot 1 MOA but it is steel bedded, has the gas cylinder unitized, and trigger mod all by Hook Boutin of Bremen, GA. Before the mods it was a 3.0 MOA rifle with surplus ammo and handloads. The NM barrel on loaded and NM models will also improve the accuracy. I can shoot a 1.5 inch group with my NM rifles at 100 yards with only iron sights while laying prone. Definitley sub-MOA with quality handloads. If you are getting a 1.5 inch group of the bench then you have an excellent rifle.

I would say the gentleman was correct in that your standard rifle is pretty accurate for that model. Probably a great stock fit.

I just assumed you were shooting from a benchrest. I cannot shoot worth a darn from a benchrest so all of my load development and the like is off the mat.

Good shooting....

My SAI Std shot 2 moa out the box in the factory stock. I put that same SAI Std in a Sage EBR stock. It will now shoot 1moa or better with the right ammo... in 5 shot groups.

However, I will still get an occaisional flyer. I'm thinking this might be caused by inconsistency with the OEM flat oprod spring guide. I have plans to change it, I just haven't got around to do it. To see if it helps the occaisional flyer situation.

Minute-of-milk jug at 200 yards all day (with surplus/ 150 gr. fmj reloads). I imagine it can do better, but it is a lot of fun watching that milk jug dance around.

Mr Luppino 2-3 shot groups on two targets at 100 yards. The range guy measured for me. They pattern really nice they dont string. 1.5 inches with Federal Powershock 150 grain. My stock is really tight. Im just really tickled silly with this rifle. I had all kinds of plans for this rifle and now im not going to touch it. I was going to put a synthetic on it but now im not going to.

My 16K ('80 or so) is one of those minute-of-paper-plate rifles, though it is wearing a Winchester barrel with only a couple thousand rounds through it. That's all I ask of it most of the time, but I did manage a nice 6inch cluster at 100yds once. It will consistently make a 8inch frying pan gong at about that distance offhand.

Here is a target I shot with my "Standard" although you mite call it a Loaded now,,it has a NM Spring Guide, Gas System is tack welded to be NM and the trigger group is NM tunned ! But is is sporting a H&R GI Chrome BBL. I was shooting from a pretty decent rest and target was @ 100yrds ! Not to bad over all I guess !

At 200 yards with Irons I can "pop" clay pigeons. That is 2moa...I have never really shot the rifle for groups with Match or Factory ammo, I have always shot surplus ammo...

Minute-of-4"-tile all day long with irons -- my Leupy is being a pain and is currently not mounted but it can do better at 300 and beyond (eyes are getting old), but is less better (great grammar) under that than the irons.

It's not really the scope's fault, Leupold makes great scopes, it's just that for some reason I can't bring the crosshair down far enough to line up with bore sight center (which is were the bullet hits). I'll figure it out sometime but with irons that I love this much my motivation is this >< small.

And it isn't a Match rifle, but I don't know if it qualifies as a Standard either -- oh well!

I'm confident I could kill anything I need to with it as far as I'd take a shot to. Does that count?

It's not really a Standard anymore though.
