Carbon Fiber Handguards ...

Wonder what ever happened to that feller ...

Called himself CattleCall6 back then at BR ...

He was in the process of doing up some real nice carbon fiber handguards and even showed a few pics of his prototypes ...

Lots of folks were quite interested in acquiring them with potential orders and then all of a sudden he just disappeared into thin air ...

Seemed like a nice feller and was from somewhere here in Missouri (North Central I believe) ...

My membership there was terminated so maybe one of ya'll could maybe pose the question over there but I doubt anyone could tell us anything ... Dunno ... :?:

I have only been around for 18 months or so, so I guessed I missed this!

Sorry if I am dredging up any bad memories.

fiberglass handguards

Back in '74, my Devine M1A came with a wooden handguard. I replaced it with a ventilated fiberglass one like we had in 'Nam. The wooden one was not ventilated.

I put a walnut handguard on mine to match the beautiful stock I had. It cracked from heat the first time out. Fultons is selling some handguards made from some thermoplastic. I'm using the vented one too now. The are flimsey , break easily , and give heat distortion waves in your sight picture , but look so cool! I might make a milling fixture so I can slot the later , thicker fibreglass guards.

a good freind of mine builds/races sailboats and is very good with carbon fiber. he has built some fal stocks that are awesome. if he can build fal stocks, i figure a m14 hand guard will be no problem. i will be in touch with him in a week or so, hes out of country now.

why stop at just a handguard?

CF is durable enough to make a stock out of... sure its ugly as piss but thats what we have Six for.

Yeah I "donated" an un-issued vented handguard to that project, the deal was I would get the first one made in exchange. I sure was hopeing he would pull it off, oh-well lesson learned. :(

Seems funny that he just kind of dropped of the face of the earth though, doesn't it?

Has anyone tried to veneer walnut on a synthetic handguard. I think you would be able to with a vacuum press and epoxy. Get the walnut look without the cracking. I would try it if I was back home  Just a thought

i have regular hand guards i can send for a model, dont have vented. there would be no reason to send a un issued hand gaurd, a beat up one would be fine.

I would be willing to part with another one of my vented handguards if it looks to be a good venture.
