Smile Combo Tools

Most military operators manuals will explain the use of the combo tool.
It's most common use is that of a wrench to loosen and tighten the gas plug. It is first of all the handle for the GI gleaning rod. The solid end is used to strip the bolt (it doesn't work well as a bolt assembly tool) and the small blade to adjust the screw in the windage knob. The open end is used a tool to push rounds out of the stripper clips into the magazine. The last item doesn't seem to be common knowledge.

I would imagine the holes are just to lighten it up, and the clip loading thing is primarily when in cold/arctic conditions when wearing gloves with the winter trigger kit installed.

and last but not least the chamber brush fits in the big hole
in the end to store in the buttstock. I find the Combo Tool
very expedient for bolt assembly or disassembly, it takes
a little practise and cost's about 1/10th of a bolt tool.

Seldom needed, but also for opening and closing the gas valve when using grenade launcher (i.e. single rate fire/semi-automatic fire).

I'll second that, but it works great if you want to break the tip of the firing pin! :(
