I copied the below quote from a thread in the PX of which might be of interest.

you should see it NLT next friday then....
The largest dealer in USGI parts is down here from Omaha at a local gunshow, he normally has NEW in the wrap ones.
Now if you want a REAL USGI used one, meaning it came off of a REAL USGI issue M14, I can get that type also. We have a custom builder here that has contracts with the Gov...the Gov sends in M14's and they remove the full-auto capable receivers and replace them with a commercial one and then rebarrel them to match specs and then send them to the USMC armorers at Quantico for finishing (and some to an Army facility).
I have three of these "Used" USGI ones (off of the M14's) and I can't tell the difference between a "new" one and a "used" one. The M14's evedently had been used very little and had been in storage for some time.

I was wondering the same thing quagmire. I know it's been done on a limited basis for some reason but not to my knowlege on any large scale. That's what this post makes it sound like.
There are fifteen former Department of Energy M14 rifles that are transferrable. azski and I saw four of them last December in Phoenix, AZ at the Small Arms Review gun show.
I'm still trying to figure out why they would replace the receiver. It just doesn't make sense.
JMHO, but as to this comment:

besides...that post was directed to my friends question...not for general consumption on any other part of the forum & it was pulled & posted without my knowledge..please don't do that again.....
If you post something on a public message board, don't be surprised when people discuss it. I don't see that anyone has done anything wrong in this case. If you didn't want people to talk about this, you shouldn't have posted it.
I was the one who "pulled it" and posted it on this thread due to the informational content that it provided.... All information exchanged on the forums are considered open domain so ifu don't want something discussed, as stated above, please don't post it..... There was no ill intent about the discussion of the content and I see only qualified discussion about it....
i dont think they would replace receiver it just doesn't make sense. most of the M14s were not setup as full auto to begin with. i'm sure they have plenty of selector locks in some warehouse. if not all they need to do is call me i'll give them some for the price of 1 M14 registered in my name.
Ditto. Unless the receiver is AFU there is no economic advantage to "swap it out".
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
