A Newbie Question: M1a parts

A Newbie Question:
I recently purchased a Springfield M1a receiver and I am in need of parts to build the rest of the gun. As I am 4 hours away from Camp Perry I thought that I would be able to find the parts I need. My question is when would be the best time for me to head up to Camp Perry to find parts for a M1a? Should I go up there during the pistol or rifle competiton? Iwould be grateful for any advice. Thank you, Buzz J.

Parts is Parts

I don't know what parts you are looking for or what parts are available at PERRY. I can tell you there are parts available at Sarco, Fulton Armory etc. These folks are all on the web and there are others. Hell, even E-Bay has some

GOOD LUCK

Thumbs up Try the PX

I think if you go to the PX in this forum you can find most if not all parts you need.

I got enough for 3 or 4 rifles all right here.

He should be very careful if he purchases M14 parts off Ebay. It is a great place to throw away good money on junk parts.

The parts I need are: a barrel, bolt , stock and gas system. I thought that at Perry, I would be able to handle the parts so that I would know exactly kind of condition the parts I want to purchase are in.

+1 on ebay WARNING avoid ebay unless you know exactly what you are buying and from whom

I have found the PX to be an invaluable source of parts, always properly described, reasonably priced and sold by and to a community of users that really KNOW the M14 and her parts.

For commercial/USGI contract parts look at both Smith Enterprises and Sadlak Industries. No better gas cylinder than SMI's M80HT forged stainless. I have two rifles with Sadlak NM spring guides and can attest to the amazing difference this part makes. For stocks check the PX and Fred's, I got a couple of really nice stocks from Fred's, very reasonably priced, but prepare to wait for your order...

Fulton, Armscorp, SA Inc, and I think Amherst were there last year and all had M14 & M1 parts. I would go during rifle week.

Camp Perry

Some vendors dealing in both rifle and pistol are there for those phases of competition. Pistol vendors bug out quickly afterwards, but, some rifle vendors only show up when it's time for rifle competition. The earlier the better during the rifle phase. I don't see a lot of bargains on quality parts at any time much less at the end of competition.

The PX here and CSP shoppers are some of the better places along with Fulton, and the rest. When a vendor like Fulton sells an item they back it up. Private sales may not be as reliable. Sometimes a deal is too good to be true. You get what you pay for. I've shopped judiciously on eBay and had good buys. You need to know what you want and what you are willing to pay.

Good luck!
Bruce
