Newbie wanting to order an LRB M14 but have Qs?

Hey guys, Im an M14 newbie but have done enough research to know that I want to order an LRB Service grade but before I do, I was hoping you guys could help clear some stuff up for me? (I realize for some of this stuff, I should just talk to LRB directly but being new to M14s, I thought it would be good to read some other opinions before talking to them). Anyway

1. Anybody know what their current backlog\wait time is for a basic service grade?
2. To get the dealer pricing, do I just need to have my FFL place the order?
3. Do you pay up front at the time of the order or not until the rifle is ready?
4. Standard or M25 receiver? Im torn because part of me wants a basic, as close to issue, M14 as possible and I figure all the demand right now is for the M25 receiver so I may not have to wait as long to get mine built with a standard receiver? The other part of me realizes my eyes sight isnt that great and I will probably want to mount a scope on it at some point and if I do, Ill be kicking myself for not getting the M25 receiver?
5. Barrel, I know I want a 22 chrome linee barrel but should I go Criterion or Wilson, standard profile or DMR? The DMR profile sounds pretty cool as long as it doesnt add too much weight up front. Anybody happen to know how much weight the DMR profile adds?
6. Other upgrades? I read in a post here from one person who recommended getting the gas cylinder unitized and upgrading to a NM op-rod guide? Not knowing much about M14s, I was hoping one of you could explain exactly what those upgrades are, if they are worth it and if so, why? Are there any other upgrades like those I should consider?

TIA for any info you can provide!

Call LRB...From my understanding they are finishing up with the lot of finished standard receivers, and are gearing up on M25s. Don't take anybodies word but theirs though. Give 'em a call, they'd love to speak with you and are the VERY BEST manufacturer I have delt with in 30+ odd years of Gunplay. Mention the Forum, the folks at LRB are brothers to us here and treat us well. Best of luck with your decision.

Oh I will be calling them but I just figured I could get some of the questions out of the way ahead of time, especially #2 and 3. I will get Lou's opinion on questions 4-6 too but I would also like to read some other peoples opinions on those subjects as well. None of you guys have any opinions on those questions?

Thanks

When I got mine I needed to have my ffl holder send a copy to them and for payment I sent that to them when they called and informed me they were ready to start my build. I do not know if that changed as I recieved mine about a year ago.

Lou and Paul are very friendly and will answer your questions and more. Give them a call.

I know they bill you when (B4) it ships. As for their policy on pricing, that is between you and them. I tried to hint in my earlier post that the wait on standards may be longer, but only LRB can answer that accurately. As for upgrades, have them throw in the SADLAK spring guide, and look at Smith Enterprises online store, as LRB offers some of their stuff. Look at the LRB site for available options. I tend to order rack grade USGI spec rifles from them....

As everyone else said, LRB is a great company. My wait time was about 4 months, but it was worth it. I wanted a Criterion barrel, but they didn't have any at the time, so I got a Wilson barrel (with chrome) that has done fine. I was very impressed with the fit and finish of the rifle. If I were you, I'd get a Government Issue with a walnut stock. I still think mine is absolutely gorgeous. Good luck. Tell us the outcome.

Cool

I'm looking at a LRB barreled action as the foundation for my next build.

1.I ordered the standard receiver and a medium weight chrome lined barrel about 2-3 weeks ago and was quoted about a 4 month wait.
2. Call them you might be pleasantly suprised.
3. No deposit required.
4. I went with the standard because I plan on shooting irons sights. I am told the M14 platform has some of the best iron sights.
5. I went with the medium weight chrome lined DMR since I am going to have a few other things tweaked on my build.
6. My upgrades, unitized gas syst., NM trigger mod to 4.5 lbs, Sadlak TiN coated piston, Tubb's CS spring kit, NM ream flash suppressor, Sadlak op rod spring guide. You might also consider having the action bedded. Search the archives you will find tons of reading on this subject.

You know, since you said you liked the idea of a standard/original type M14, I'd advise you to order the standard. If you ever want to mount a scope, the standard M14 is very well set up for this. The M25 is an improvement, to be sure, but the military-type scope mount on a standard M14 receiver works very well.
If I were to get an M25, it would be because I wanted the utmost in accuracy. And then I'd be wanting it with a heavy barrel, a bedded stock, a unitized gas cylinder, etc. For me, the attraction for the M14 is its military history. And my standard LRB satisfies that desire perfectly. With a Hawk's dummy kit, it looks as close to the real thing as I'll ever get. And it will bust clay pigeons at 200 yards with enough regularity to thrill me (no, they aren't thrown, they just make nice targets to lay on the ground). The LRB M25, while satisfying a long-lived demand from enthusiasts, has about as much appeal for me as a sporterized 1903 Springfield. Hope I haven't ticked anyone off.

I emailed LRB 2 or 3 weeks ago, but haven't heard back from them. If you get a barreled action from them does it come parkerized?

I would definitely email them again. Lou always returns my emails within a day or two.
