NM / Pre XM21

Here is a rifle recently back from Ted Brown's workshop. It is built as an all Springfield Armory National Match rifle circa 1963-1965. Built on a five line SAI receiver all other parts are USGI Springfield Armory and National Match wherever appropriate. The barrel is an as new 1963 SA NM barrel. Ted did a beautiful job putting this together with parts I collected and he carefully bedded it using the techniques and materials appropriate to the time period after considerable research.

I then set it up as a pre XM21 sniper alternative to the more widely fielded M84 scope with AWC mount. This mount is an experimental / developmental AMTU mount dated 1966 and the scope is a Weaver K4. A fellow forum member who was a sniper in Nam recounted having a Weaver K4 in an "odd" mount which inspired this build. Acquiring this mount was the final touch.

Here's a close up of the mount. It has been posted on this forum previously by the previous owner.

First congratulations, on a job well done. Two whammies in one day!

I must redouble my efforts..I must redouble my efforts..I must redouble my efforts! I'm repeating myself.

Just too much, I'm going to bed now. I will worry about this tomorrow.

Ren

Thanks from Majikani and Itsadryheat

AWS mounts..

That's one I have not seen before, I mentioned I have one similiar, a single screw.. The RTE guy's added a set screw to the set up, securing it perfectly.. Only problem is you have to carry an allen wrench..

If done properly, the single screw is far less troublesome and just as secure, what a beauty... Art

Thanks from Majikani

I don't usually dogpile on with "nice rifle" comments...

But this is different.

That is a gorgeous rifle. Really unique build. Well played sir.

Thanks from conditionone and Majikani
