Found a 5-line receiver...

I'm a newbie here... But really love the M1A/M14 rifle. I found this ad locally (see below) and wondered if this is something worth looking into... I don't really know too much about the parts, etc that are on this rifle but have spent countless hrs on this forum trying to educate myself. So I know enough that a 5-line receiver should get my attention and that I should ask the experts here on this forum if this is something I should spend time looking at... What is your opinion of this rifle?

Below is the ad:
Thinning out the herd. For your consideration is a Springfield M1A built for over the course shooting (not blasting at rocks). The receiver is from the mid 1980s, the barell is a medium contour Barnett from 1997 with about 1000 rounds through it. The op rod is a Mercury Machine and Tool (MFR) with a Brookfield Industries op rod guide. The trigger group is all GI, HRA. The bolt is also GI, TRW. The rifle is currently in a very nice newer Springfield walnut stock with no bedding. Included is a black fiberglass commercial stock the rifle was bedded to when I bought it, I am not sure of the manufacturer. I will include two magaines: 1 GI and 1 CMI. Both function perfectly as does the rifle. The sling in the photos is not included, but I will include either a leather turner sling or nylon GI, your choice.

He wants $1650 firm. I'd include pics but I'm out of time... Need to go visit mom! Thanks for your opinions...

If it's legit, sounds good.
But condition is everything at any price.

What is the serial range? Not all 5 line receivers are equal. But it sounds like a nice rifle at a fair price.

It's listed as being in Wilmington, MA. No shipping. You need to examine it in person. Find out who did the rebarreling. The serial number looks like 068325. Call SAI tomorrow and see how it left the factory.

So, I may look like a fool, but what is a 5-line receiver?

In my opinion, it's definitely worth looking at in person.

Early SAI receivers had a line in the middle indicating 7.62mm. It was dropped when they also chambered the rifle in 7mm-08 and .243 Win.

The serial number cant be in the 68K range,SAI quit marking the 7.62mm on the heel in the low 63K range,All SAI can tell you is if the receiver left as a built rifle or sold as a receiver only.
Price dont seem out of line but you dont know what the barrel looks like, who barreled it,what it headspaces at ,tab on the rod etc.,i would think its a good price if the rifle checks out.

Thanks from KurtC

It's pre ban, but I don't see anything special about this rifle.

Thanks from TheShooter and ruhroh

Nothing special about it. In fact I wouldn't purchase it. You want a original factory SAI preban. That one is clearly not.

Just to help you out with some info here is my unfired 057xxx five line. Nothing has been changed since she left SAI. You should be looking for a rifle like this.

Sorry. My apology for not following guidelines. Wasn't really looking for a value. Was really looking for what people thought of the build (assembly of components) i.e. Barnett barrel, Mercury Machine op-rod, Brookfield, etc. Was wondering if this rifle sounded like someone knew what they were doing when assembling it.
