Stock is not the way they came from Nelson,it looks as if someone put a clear coat or varnish on it

Something I read last night (maybe from Different's book) was that Nelson's shop finished the stocks with 9 coats of raw linseed oil. I've used boiled linseed oil before, but have no idea what raw winds up looking like.

My friend bought a lot of guns back in his working days that he never fired. He liked all guns, but special runs, distributor editions, and higher end options really caught his attention. He had a few shooters that he shot a lot. Everything else got tucked away in the safe to be looked at and shown off now and again.

That was my gut feeling. Thank you for confirming it.

I recently discovered that the Super Match I competed with in the late 80's and early 90's was a GN build. I didn't know it at the time unfortunately, though if I did it probably wouldn't have helped my scores any. It was a very good shooting rifle with heavy Douglas barrel and heavy walnut stock.
