Good get that stock oiled up, I recommend Teak Oil from Star Bright. And get out and get your base line.

A lot has to do with your personal preference.

Is that the Springfield Archangel stock that comes with the loaded packages? If so, its fitted to the rifle and doesn't need bedding. While not as pretty, you can adjust the length of pull as well as the cheek piece which you don't have.

Since you said Sniping you're going to have a scope on it so you will have to deal with a raised optics. Having that adjustable cheek piece is a nice option.

You said you hadn't bedded the Big Red. That's something to consider. I'd say shoot with the archangel for a while and see how you like it.

Yeh, but personal preferences aside, the question asks what is best and McMillan makes the most stabile stock out there. That and nothing works better than proper glass bedding to insure the rest of the platform does it's part. I have a very nice and very accurate M14 bedded in a Big Red stock. It works good for me and it's a couple of pounds lighter than the McMillan I used to compete with. I've always liked the feel of a wood stock. My old McMillan won a lot of matches including a state championship and helped me get Distinguished. I know what works when the shooting gets serious. Getting back to personal preferences now that I'm gong on 74, the wood stock does what I need, but I wouldn't plan on using it to win any big matches.

Thanks from Tommo, M14vrp and ripsaw

167666d1494003223-mcmillan-m1a-forest-camo-stock-img_1547_zpsei2hmrvo.jpgWell, I'm getting rid of the Big Red blonde birch and Archangel. I just picked this McMillan up on the PX. It was originally mine to begin with and had to sell it back in December. The Member put it up for sale and I jumped on it.
