1990 SA M1A Supermatch value?

Don't know much about the M14/M1A platform, except that I want one. Local guy is selling a 1990 production year SA M1A Supermatch rifle in a walnut stock. The rifle has a Douglas barrel, and comes with some extra magazines and a SA scope mount. Exterior metal and the stock look good. The bore looks good, but I haven't gauged it.

Asking price is $2000. Good, Bad, or Ugly? I know it is hard to value these rifles sight unseen, but I'm just wondering if this is in the ballpark or not.

Thanks!

Question

Please refrain from using the Firing Line as a substitute for each individuals responsibility. Any threads asking for a value will be deleted with this Sticky.

Also if you should decide to answer one of those questions, please refrain from giving a value. Without seeing the item in your own have for a fine review, you can be doing an injustice to either the buyer or seller by stating a value.

You can research the Sold Classified Listings (SPF) section below here which has over 7,400 listings, or other auction sites across the internet to come up with a general price for an item(s). Springfield Armory Inc. customer service in the morning.

Some questions to get us all into the same county Ernest T...

Pictures?
How many rounds through the rifle?
How many rounds through the Douglas barrel? how many barrels has this rifle seen?
What is the serial number? call SAI to fine born date and how it left the factory?
What kind are the magazines? USGI or commercial?
What's the TE?

Thanks from TheShooter

+1 to Wasted ammo. Check Gunbroker, Arms List, Guns America, the PX here, etc. for some prices of similar rifles.

Sorry didn't mean to break forum rules with my first post. Guess, I'll let this one pass until I can do more research.

Thanks from Wasted ammo

It is best to do some good research before spending that kind of dinero.

As previously stated, get the serial number and call Springfield Armory and find out if it left the factory as a SM. I have run across several rifles that the sellers were listing as a "super match" then turned out to be a NM or a loaded that had a barrel change.

Look at all the markings on the bolt, Op Rod, trigger group, sights.
Is it a rear lugged receiver?

What is your intended use? Match shooting? Range gun for target shooting? Hunting? Safe gun? These are also some questions to ask before getting a SM.

There are 2 ways to look at it.

1. A new Supermatch with walnut stock and Douglass barrel runs about $2400. It will not have any USGI parts. It will probably shoot MOA with match ammo.

2. A 1990 Supermatch with walnut stock and Douglass barrel for $2000 will probably have a good deal of USGI parts. If those parts, the bedding or the barrel throat are worn, all you are buying is a 12 pound Standard rifle.

When shopping for a 27 year old match rifle, you need to know what to look for (or buy from a reputable member of this forum).
