Just bought my first M14/M1A and its a FA transferable

Hello all,

I have been an lurker for years on the site but never joined. I have been a member of other firearms related forums for years.

I recently just purchased a full auto transferable Springfield Armory Inc M1A.

In the purchase I got tons of USGI mags, NOS barrel, a NOS sidefolding stock (early Reese), and more linked Lake City than I can count.

Before I sealed the deal, I had Clint at Fulton Armory take a look at it rifle and do a complete inspection and replace any questionable parts with USGI parts.

The rifle is currently mounted in a Sage EBR chassis. I was wondering if someone could give me an approximate age. I am also looking for an individual or company who is doing refinishing work to get it back to its original anodized finish whatever that might be.

I also have a complete NOS (most NIW) TRW kit, including a NOS unissued TRW stock and a 0/0 TRW barrel. In the future I plan on swapping out the current USGI parts for the NOS TRW parts that I have collected over the years.

Thanks from Tommo, Deacon, nf1e and 3 others

Welcome from SE GA.

What a heck of a way to go for your first!
Most of us can only dream of owning a FA M14/M1A.

All I can say is buy more ammo!

Thanks from ryoung

For the stock try US Anodizing. The firearm portion, receiver, barrel, op rod, ect.. They are all parkerized. As far as age of firearm call Springfeild Armory Inc., or check NFA Registery. As far as EBR age, someone else can answer that. Nice gun! Cyclic rate $350.00/per min.. Welcome to M14 forum.

That's how to Rock 'N Roll! Thanks for sharing, and have fun. I had one of those once, but I also had a rich uncle Sam that paid for all the ammo.

Welcome from CT.

Could you possibly post a photo of the sear lug on the receiver. It does not show up on the photo of the bottom of the receiver.

USGI M1 Garand lockbar rear sights. Sometimes indicative of M1As made around 1980.

SAI put them on the guns because they got bucketloads of them bought from the government surplus. Now people but those sights for a good amount of money now.

I know of several made around 82-83. May of 86 would be the absolute latest.

Thanks from nf1e and MeatyMac

Old song ...
" I LOVE ROCK AND ROLL ...
PUT ANOTHER DIME IN THE JUKE BOX BABY ..."

These days R & R is a lot more expensive, but the beat still makes you wanna dance.

I used to play around with FAST FORWARD with the M14, the AR 10, and the FN FAL, and the dance was always over too soon, and cost too much.

But fellow music.lovers everywhere appreciate your new instrument.
ROCK ON!

When I see something like this, I always like to check out the State's laws on FA's.

I hope you have also checked the laws for Maryland.

According to what I've read you have only 24 hours to report the purchase to the Maryland State Police.

Nice firearm, but in my opinion it belongs in a USGI wooden stock.

Welcome from Southeast Texas.

Appropriate song since the OP is from MD and Joan Jett spent her teenage years in MD.....; )

The OP is a lucky guy.....a lot of folks can't even get Clint on the phone....he had Clint inspect his rifle lickity split.....but still has unanswered questions....; )

Not sure where you are in MD.....but DO NOT take that thing to Hap Baker Range....or most public ranges there. The RSO's get nervous about anything that may be illegal.....; )

I like the painted EBR stock. Not really a fan of them, but that looks cool.

I've seen a lockbar windage knob on a 96xxx. This would place it in the mid-90s (definitely post ban - no lug FH).
