I was looking for the most authentic replica of a Viet Nam issue M14 for my U.S. martial arms collection. It was this LRB offering: "CLASSIC RIFLE AUTHENTIC VIET-NAM ERA "AS ISSUE" RIFLE." It has the LRB forged receiver and bolt and the Criterion barrel. All other parts are U.S.G.I. They were about $1,000.00 cheaper then than they are now. They hold value pretty well. (I did not know that and it wasn't a consideration at the time, but it is a good thing to know.) I was after a forged receiver and I was ignorant of BULA's existence a few years back. Your wants may be different. My "play with" carbine is a SAI SOCOM, which has not disappointed me in the least. I have examples of two "ends of the spectrum". There are a lot of options in the middle.

I urge you to make up your mind soon as this thread has highlighted rifles that may go to others if you do not act quickly. Best wishes.
Pretend! Is the key word my friend.

Thank you all for the observations, suggestions, help, etc.

I'm going with the Bula for now. Next rifle will be something with one of Jon Wolfe's barrels.

I'm going to have to give up something to pay for this new addiction. Reloading equipment is next!

You'll be hearing from me more as I learn this rifle and, heh, upgrade it!

Thanks from Rich D

You made a good choice, not there was a bad one in the bunch. You may as well start filling your piggy bank back up. You will want another one soon!

Congratulations on your decision. I am sure it was difficult, you had some great options there.

You made the right choice for a GP rifle. You can pick up collector grade stuff as your addiction worsens.

That's what "worries" me. In a few years I'm going to reply to one of those "Show us your M14's" thread and it's going to look like a Chorus Line. Then I'm going to have to explain that the 4 on the left are safe queens and the 3 in the middle are in mid build, but the 3 on the right are the ones I shoot every weekend. The pressure is already getting to me.

Look at this guy's post. He doesn't even have one yet,and is already planning on a second one!!! And he isn't even really addicted yet.... And wait until he starts buying spare parts, or parts he doesn't really need just because they are "too cool" or too good of a price to pass up.

Jeff, from Bula Forge has a nice barreled receiver with bolt, etc. for a smoking good price for sale in the PX right now. Just need a stock, trigger group, flash hider, and a few small parts. Standard weight barrel. This might be just what would fill your current desire.

Thanks from DudleyDR

Mosts M14 folks will end up with 3 rifles. Precision, Collector and General purpose.

The addicts end up with 10, with parts to build 3 more on short notice.

Huh? I actually had an interest in the "All Winchester", but, didn't want to stick my nose in until SysteminShock made a decision, unfortunately looks like that listing has been removed....

You didn't need to do that. I fully expected all those rifles to have sold before I made my decision. I do thank you, though!

Hopefully your Bula works out well.

Since it's tax season I would look for something on the used market. There's a guy with a supermatch in a mcmillan stock for 2000 in the classifieds, or find a standard for say 1200 bucks.
