I just can't see the point I mean what would be the point of chambering a full size battle rifle in what is actually an intermediate round

It's on a SOCOMish length barrel anyway, so not intended to go the distance and a lot less expensive than a mini-14.

Correction: looks like an 18" barrel. Still, QCB type range fun on the cheap.
I guess I see it like putting side pipes and a hugh rear fin on a Toyota. IOW silly.

Don't know how many of you have heard about this one, but, during Vietnam they'd take captured 1911's and convert them to 7.62x25 ammo that was readily available, so, I'd have to wonder if something similar was tried with an M14 & 7.62x39?

If it was tried I would imagine one would have turned up.

No way. When I get the urge to shoot 7.62x39, I pick up my Romanian SKS.

If you are going to shoot 7.62x39, spend $429.00 at Classic Firearms and get an SKS. It'll run anything you put in it and hit minute of man out to 200yds. When you run out of ammo, use it as a club until you get some more and it will still shoot. Like someone here said-"Just cause you could, doesn't mean you should!". It's like necking down a .460 Weatherby to .22cal. You could but why??

I'm not reading through all these replies... but it is a loosing proposition. The mini 30 is not popular at $750 and don't forget about the lowly sks... still can be had for 300-500 bucks and usually less than 3 moa.

Buy a 7.63 X 39 upper for your AR and have fun on the cheap.

Well, ammo at $0.20/round can be nice, and if you just like the feel of handling a M14, I sure understand that...

But an M14 is kind of an expensive platform to gear towards shooting cheap ammo.

That's how I ended up with an SKS. Much cheaper blasting stuff in the yard, and when it hits the ground, I don't have entire chunks of earth falling on my roof. With .308, the sky is falling, which only slightly amuses my wife..

But at least she's amused!

BTW,.308 is a good cartridge for digging trenches in moist earth...
