Question Convince Me!

Hey guys (and gals) I'm new to this forum and don't have an m1a or an m14 yet however... I have always been romanced by this family of rifles but I want to know that the hefty price is worth it since I'm looking at having to save for a solid year or so to afford one. I'm looking for a do it all/ possible teotwawki rifle. I have narrowed it down to an 18" FAL or an 18" m1a or m14. Should I save the extra 500 or so for the garand family? Convince my frugal self haha. I am planning to suppress just FYI I am aware of the modifications recommended on the M1A/M14.

Thanks all!

If you're really looking for the right TEOTWAWKI ("The End Of The World As We Know It") rifle for yourself.

You need to do your own due diligence and research by spending the time reading hundreds of threads here on what the rifle can really do on any rifle range, in any weather, with different loads, with any type of shooter experience, repeatability year after year performance and dependability... it's the last real Battlerifle ever designed and manufactured. I will direct you to one of my threads to start your education primusgod...

New Mexico Range Report. (this one covers weather, different ammunition loads, repeatability, distance from 100 yard to >1,100 yards)

I hope that this will help you answer your questions.

Thanks from High Hat

I've got a M14 type rifle and a FAL type rifle, boty with stock length barrels. Love them both. Can't go wrong either way. You probably need to handle and shoot both before making a decision.

I like my M14s and wouldn't trade them for anything, for me they are as good as it gets in a battle rifle.....period!

Feast your eyes on the best battle rifles ever devised.

Tons of feed back fast! I will say the M1A was the first rifle I ever wanted to own. Also that secretly I've already done tons of research to narrow the choices to these two. I really only have concern with blowback suppressed as the opinions on mitigation seem all over the place. I've decided to buy an M1A really unless someone tells me suppressing it isn't worth the effort (not afraid to sink tons of it financially or otherwise for that "one" rifle.) Other than that ill be joining you all with the kiddish smiles on your faces here soon.

Neither if you are frugal. This is not the platform for frugality. Everything with this platform is the opposite of frugal. It eats expensive, it scopes expensive, accuracy is expensive.
Consider yourself warned. Advance at your own peril.

Buy an AK.. that's frugal.

I've been married 27 years, together for 30. People (usually my divorced friends) ask me what's the secret, how did I know she was "the one". I simply say, "You just know."

Same for buying one of these rifles. Either you've lusted for years/decades before making the jump, carried one while serving or you're lucky enough to have enough cash lying around to just buy one on a whim.

You just know if this rifle is for you. If you have to be convinced, then you're not ready.

Thanks from XXIV Corps, High Hat, Doc and 3 others
