Awards Showcase

In addition to Ren's pic, these may help. I no longer have it, another forum member does.

Early 1994 Standard M1A in about 99% condition. Only wear is to the buttplate flap and a little bit on the edge of the oprod handle (see pics). It ejects FGMM to the 2 0'clock position and the only brass mark is where it belongs, on the edge of the oprod block.

Marked USGI parts are as follows

SA chrome lined barrel
SA trigger housing
TRW bolt
H&R oprod
OM-N Hammer
WCE elevation
BME windage
H&R sight base
KMT spring guide

The flash hider is forged USGI. The stock only has a couple of light impressions and the slotted handguard is near pristine.

Kurt, you can't help them all. Some are just lost. I enjoyed the pics!

My rifle is a diversion in my life, just another in a line of interests I enjoy. In a SHTF/TEOTAWKI/balloon goes up/zombies situation... I guess it's gonna be more handy than my Fender Telecaster.

I like my M1A so much, if I had to vacate the premises in a hurry and could only carry a few things, I'd grab it (and an old clock my grandfather gave me). I imagine I'm not alone.

Unless Jimi is one of the zombies. Yes he liked the strat, but I'm pretty sure he could bend them strings a little.

No, you aren't alone. If someone made you vacate I'm pretty sure that m14 would make them think twice. If nothing else it would give you that warm feeling only a real rifle can.

You should look at the AKM...

The M1A will never be "a do it all/ possible teotwawki rifle".

Very respectfully,
Buck

You answered the question yourself already. You subcontiously already know which one you will get. Now just get one and we will be here to congratulate you. Oh and be sure to bring pictures too.

You can never have too many M14's. Only not enough.

Getting an M1A was an easy decision for me. Like you, I've always wanted one, but since I live in Chicago, black guns are verboten. But now you have to consider which one and what you want to do with it.

I mean the wooden stocks are the better looking option, but if you're shooting with a scope, the loaded archangel model is a bit more practical. Do you want a full sized rifle or a SOCOM or a Scout.

You can buy new or used. You could also save up for a Bula or another custom model.

I went with the loaded that came in an Archangel stock from Springfield. Then added a Nightforce Scope. (ATACR 4-16) You want to buy the best scope you can afford and there are a lot of good options. Lucid seems to be a good choice too.

As to running suppressed. That's not an option for me. I'm waiting for the day that I can, and I'm sure that others here can talk more about it.

One thing for sure. Having a .308 in your arsenal for when the SHTF, is a good thing.

Killa, I almost didn't even notice the mini stuck in the middle. It's cool looking. You wouldn't want to pass that jewel under it along to a brother would you? Just kidding I know I know you'll never sell another m14.

Thumbs up The choice is not even close !

I have owned 3 different FALs, STGs etc. Great rifles to be sure ..............I have also owned ( and still do ) many M1 Garands, even in 7.62mm.

I HAVE NEVER OWNED A SCOUT OR ANY M14 PLATFORM WITH A BARREL SHORTER THAN THE 22" USGI TYPE SO I CANNOT COMMENT ON THEIR PERFORMANCE AT LEAST IN MY HANDS.

That being said I have also shot in many HP matches and 3 gun tactical shoots and IMO the most accurate, reliable rifle with superior iron sights for me is the good ole M14 standard GI issue style.

The rifle comes to shoulder perfectly and has quick sight acquisition with the standard battle sights.

Oh yeah, did I mention accurate ? A skilled rifleman with an iron sighted M14 will give anyone ( with an iron sighted battle rifle and quite a few scoped ones too ) a run for their money and come out on top most of the time.

Scopes belong on bolt guns IMO.

It's not braggin if it's true !!!

As far as breakage and high dollar parts, well I have had a few M14s in my day WITH ZERO BREAKAGE ! New extractors OK, breakage NONE !

Forget the FALs, get a proven winner..............The M14, built in the United States of America for use by American Patriots !

JOKER

Joker, you used a word that isn't used so much anymore Rifleman. A lot of these chaps nowadays want a 6 pound 22 rifle to shoot. They could save a heap of money and just buy a 10/22. I'm not claiming to be the rifleman of the year or anything, but if I want to shoot a rifle I want a rifle.
