Caught the M1A fever

I have always enjoyed shooting military weapons (range/competition) and always wanted a M1A but never got around to purchasing one. I mentioned this to a friend who says he has an M1A that he doesn't shoot anymore, he's more into long range shooting with bolt actions. Got it (1984 SAI) and shot it, needless to say it has a new home. I thought that was the end of the story until I see him again and he gives me a box of USGI parts, everything except receiver and barrel. OK, no suspense here we know where this is going. After some consideration (2 min) I decided to make the leap going to build my own.

Mission: I want to tailor this build to long range shooting so it will have glass/bipod and with my limited knowledge leaning towards M21/25 type receivers.

A ton of options are available and I am both new to the M1A community and doing any type of build activity. I would like any receiver recommendations (BULA, JRA, FA, LBR) and whether or not to go rear lugged. I'm not looking for the very top end but what is best for the money. Thanks

Show him a close up pic Capona, of what he needs to build. All I have is a walnut loaded not really a long range range superstar.

.....Bula, and don't go rear lug, only needed in bedded stock weapons and even then its arguable if it will help with accuracy or preserving the bedding.

I would suggest Bula M-21 DMR, XM21 or an LRB M-25.
If you are looking to scope only, the Bula XM21 is the way to go. No need to put sights that you won't use on your rifle.

Congratulations on your new "infection"

The great thing is that now that you've caught it, you're cured!

What do you mean "You are cured"?? Not by a long shot! Next he'll want a Scout Squad and then a SOCOM and then another and another-There is no cure and antibiotics don't help.

Thanks from Wasted ammo

Thanks all

Photos were very helpful and also gave me some additional ideas. I think I'll forgo the rear lugs.
