BAR M14 receivers

This is a discussion on BAR M14 receivers within the The M14 forums, part of the M14 M1A Forum category; I like Bowen Armory Rifles as opposed to B.A.R. on the heel. I mean, they both look good but B.A.R. edges closer to being tacky. ...

It's cool that you guys picked up some of the tooling from Gunworks of Lower Alabama. Nice to see the work of that company carry on in spirit.

No final decisions of course, but there will probably be 2 different stamps available. One will be B.A.R. in a diamond, and one with Bowen Armory Rifles written out. Many other decisions come before the final draft of heels will come down. Love the input though

Hot off the 3D printer, the first full size version of Rip's receiver. Was done by a friend of the company for free, Kudos to Art at Shooting Sight.

Owner of the machine shop is meeting with all concerns of this project today about final decisions. ...the delay was caused by a horrible car accident that claimed the lives of both his parents. Therefore, he hasn't been available for a few weeks.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends in these trying times.

Art from Shooting Sight is in Vegas at Shot Show with one of our 3D receivers and it is garnering great interest there, ....and have been approached by other machine shops interested and asking if we have a contract to do them yet.

Bowen Armory was not removed from the M14 Firing Line Forum. Since Bowen Armory had not become a Site Sponsor. A feeler thread is just that, feeling if the market is out there before commenting 10's of thousands of $'s. We have had a lot of feeler threads here in the past 13 years, I've seen many that never come to pass every year or so.

Thanks from Rich D

Yes I am a little frustrated. I do wish Rip A Good Future in the M14/M1A Indrustry. It is Frustratng that a feeler thread would be used like it was in this forum only to be pulled because the company did not have intentions of fulfilling orders that they were , well , lets just say, being less than forward about their intentions??? anyway, such a disappointment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! Disclosure: Just My Personal Thoughts > If Rip Or gto has a problem with it They can< Like I am; discuss it on the M14 forum????????????????????????????????????????

spanky289,

If the Bowen Armory receiver would have gone forward. A brand new thread would have been started from scratch in the "Group Buy ", for all members to jump on the deal and talk about how much money is required to hold your place in the production run. As I posted above, it didn't come to past. It's better to stop it now before any money is exchanged. You're not alone spanky289.

This is a process where Rip needs to decide how much money to invest bringing a product to market. In the case of an M14, between the forging dies, the forgings, developing the tool paths. and cutting the receivers, not to mention the many hours of unpaid time Rip is investing, I'm willing to bet that $50k is not an unreasonable number to get the first unique receivers out there.

So I fully understand that a 'feeler thread' to try to gage what the market is, is appropriate, so he does not dump $50k to get out a batch that brings him a fluffy $20k in sales ....

The M14 is a passion for Rip, but an even greater passion is eating and having a roof over his head, so he needs to make sure the business proposition is sound before investing.

I can appreciate that - never having the $50K available to risk. I know enough to know that such a venture has to be driven from a love of the platform and is time consuming and risky. And there has to be much more involved than I can possibly imagine. Also, things often cost twice what the best estimates are as there always seems to be something not fully considered and allowed for. Best wishes to all involved from a failed entrepreneur.
