Just got a minty pre-ban M1A, barrel has a Genesco ? Geneseo on it. Too lazy to get my jewlers loop out to get the spelling. Anyone know about these barrels? Could it be original from a Springfield build in 1981? Have not heard of them.
Those are a common style of Garand sight knobs known as "lock bar." That particular rifle has a commercial trigger housing and a Winchester oprod. The barrel looks commercial. Bolt is Harrington Richardson.
Same barrel marking in front of the gas plug too. My stock is nicer, raw and crisp. that one looks sanded and smooth, folks need to leave their wood alone.
The one in the auction is a used M-14 birch replacement stock (square Proof). Springfield Armory reconditioned such stocks by sanding out all the dings, dent and scratches. Back then, they pretty much used any stock they could get their hands on.
That explains it. The original stock was with the rifle and looked sanded smoth and shiny like the gunbroker rifle but he had replaced it with a minty, unsanded "Fred's" stock per my request.
