Does anybody know if original M-2 bipods are still available and if they are where and what kind of price range? I thought I was buying an original bipod from a vendor in the SGN but when it arrived it was stamped WMI, which according to The last steel warrior book is a reproduction, it has no drawing number. It is a nice piece though. The condition was what first got me suspicious too new looking. When I went back and looked at the ad it advertised fabulous MILITARY bipod, not G.I. I felt duped at first and still kind of do but that will teach me to notice the details. Still like I said I am not dissapointed with it Just wish it was actually a G.I. piece. Was $135 to much? The ad also said it was not a cheap chicom knockoff. That got that part right. Tawain isnt Communist LOL.

I found an original M2 last year at a gun show. Guy wanted $200 and the thing looked like he had dug it up out of a rice paddy. WMI is who makes the M2's that SAI sells. I bought one of theirs when I got my M1A and it was stamped U.S. W.M.I.
What do you think of the quality of the WMI?

Wayne Machine, Inc. does not make the receiver, barrel, operating rod, stock or the bolt. Here is the April 2004 WMI parts catalog for the M1903, M1and M14 rifles:

I am pleased with the quality. It mounted up correctly, the locks for the legs are good no slippage when in either position (up or down) and they are stable when extended. I've not had any problems with it. I have not seen any of the $30 cheap ones that are out there so I can't say how it differs from them. All in all I am happy with it.

I have 2 "U.S. 7790688 BIPOD RIFLE M2" bipods which appear to be USGI. One with a swivel and one without. The one with the swivel is of brazed contruction, has a yellow DAS marking on the left side of the front, blue "M" on bottom of each leg, & blue "M" on outside of both clamps. This one is just like it should be except for the blue "M" on both clamps instead of just the right one(Different's 1st book p.166).
But the M2 bipod without swivel differs in markings. It is of brazed contruction, no blue "M" on bottom of legs or outside of clamps. This bipod has been slightly used, so they could have worn off. But the major differences are a white DAS marking on the right rear of the bipod body & the legs have forge marks of "BKS" & "ATW" on top. Overall constuction, drain holes, etc are exactly like the other bipod. Anybody have info on this one?
Thanks,
Carey

The bipod still needs a lot of research. The only thing that is certain is the following:

As far as we know only Farmer's Tool from Denver made them.

There were several contracts at different times.

Replacement parts were produced but it is unknown if the parts were from Farmer's or later on during the Vietnam war.

It is possible the legs are replacements. It is also possible that the contractor had more than one supplier of certain parts. Like I said more information is needed. So far I have found four different bipod swivels, and three different yokes (brackets).
