JRA M14 Receiver

If to many Roc Ola Threads please move to appropriate place.

Got mine from FFL this morning.

As an amateur I think it looks good. Local "smith" was impressed.

Cool beans…

Got a bad firing pin for my current build - sitting by the door waiting for UPS to drop it - so I can put it together and go function shoot it…

Oh man, the "96" looks crooked; dang, in 30 years you will be able to sell this gun for twice as much as one with the numbers lined up because it will be an "early low number RockOla made before they figured out how to line up the numbers". Just kidding :)

Honestly, its really nice looking. I just took delivery of number 161 with a 18.5" Criterion Standard weight chrome lined barrel with a RockOla bolt that is head spaced to it. I will get some pics up this weekend. In addition, I just received an email from Treeline that my TRW kit has shipped; I am a very happy camper right now!!

Thanks from Casimirblue and Renisin

The dropped 6 is my only complaint and to be honest it really doesn't bother me. I just want the finished product to shoot well.

I'm going to put a Krieger Med Weight in it. I'm saving more pennies.

I hear ya! I actually hoped mine had a number that was not quite right, but mine looks good. If these things follow the way of miss-struck coins, there will be a premium on the ones some day like yours with numbers not quite right. It would not bother me in the least and will not in any way affect the way it shoots.

My JRA receivers are all hand stamped...40, 66, and 67. Not perfect, but they look good to me. I like the character it adds. Any human touches make the item more unique and personalized.

Look forward to seeing it finished. I am currently working on number 66. An all TRW build. Need to install the bolt, op-rod, rear sight, and FH. Slap it in a stock and its done. Already lapped in the bolt, torqued on the barrel, installed the ORG, and shimmed the gas system. Fun part of the assembly is finished. Now to shoot lots of tiny groups :)

Post some pics when you get it finished.

I've always been curious about the sights using the Troy. Any thoughts?

Haven't actually decided which way I'm going with this one.

Have a set of MagPul Flip-ups on it for now - probably go with the Troy ones (just to keep it in the family).

I'm spec'ing the optics setup for my recently acquired FNH SCAR-17 first, which - due to the weight & ergo (compared to M14) is probably my 1st SHTF grab now. That one is likely going to get a Leup Mk6 1-6 with an H1 on a 45* (Chris Costa's suggestion when I asked how I should configure it for his "Heavy Carbine" course).

Doesn't mean I won't keep building and shooting M14's - I just "gear up" my rifles in order purchased/built, and usually throw on what I have laying around unused in the interim - until I decide on a tactical/tasking direction for that particular firearm.

This build is likely going to be a close/mid gun (PB to 300) so I'd likely go with some kind of Dot/Ring type holo.

Rick

chris costa is big on the narrow objective low power scopes right now and so am i.

i think for mcs though, acog and canted ironsights would be best for that.
