I've used nail polish, auto paint, and rattle can paint, to mark zero'd iron sights and scope and other optic sights mounted on 1913 rails, as confirmation marks and the nail polish and auto paint last the longest with regular use and gun cleaning.
Thank you!
I had second thoughts about the nail polish, but a guy I was talking to swore up and down that it's remarkably durable.......so we'll see!!
Cheers!!

Some good suggestions here to add a little color to our beloved M14s/M1As and other firearms. I like a laquer or paint stick. It has proven easy to apply and easy to wipe off the excess. Dries hard and resistant to oils and solvents. My Sadlak mount came with a white paint stick that I used. Was easy and turned out great.

I used a Forster's gold inlay kit on one of mine and it turned out great It can be messy, but take your time cleaning and the results look great. I also got a Forster's silver inlay kit, but have yet to try it.

Hey Jersey Devil, thanks for the info on how you do these, I used to use the crayons or china markers, but found they just came off to easily so I decided to give your method a try and I'd say it came out pretty good, The heel stamp is decent tho the edges are fairly lightly stamped but the most of it is there, some parts with lighter stamps didnt come out all that amazing but a lot better than they did with crayons or china makers.

Anyone use any color other than white?

Thanks for the nice words, everyone!
Maybe someday it'll be a sticky. I get some PMs from time to time in reference to this thread, so it's nice to see that others are gaining knowledge and having fun with it.

Thanks from USSF06

I'm interested as well. I have been considering using a tan/sand color to match my stock.

Sand color or gray would be neat, as it would be more subdued. I've used white, yellow, and red. They all came out great. I used my method each time and just like refinishing, it's all about the preparation.

I can do another yellow and share it here if you'd like.
