T44

A question for the experts. There was a Springfield T44 receiver listed on gunbroker today (it was purchased this evening). My understanding is that the T44 was what SA was developing and eventually became the M14. Could that T44 (serial number was 9XXX) be built into a rifle? Would M14 parts fit and would the receiver be safe?

I saw it. I have no idea what it was. I believe the heel was marked Springfield Armory M1 T44. It was odd.

Here is the link to the auction.

Something isn't right with the look of that receiver...

Here is a REAL T44 rifle (not the T44E4, which was much like the M14) the T44 was a little different then the M14 we ended up with.

The gun broker receiver lacks provision for full auto parts. While even the T44 has them. Futhermore the top receiver looks like a semi auto only one with the metal in the way of the FA parts. I am guessing this is commercial receiver with special roll marks.

Thanks from budster and High Hat

SA Inc stamped a receiver for certain people. This one is a commercially made receiver.

I know a guy who had all the parts for a T44E5 and SA Inc produced the class 3 receiver for him with those markings.

I agree with Bill. All T44 rifle varients were full auto and none I have seen included M1 on the receiver heel. The receiver is bogus if it was represented as an original T44 rifle receiver. The first short receiver version was marked T44E2.

If I remember right, Lee Emersen's book said that SAI stamped M15 on one of the receivers for a guy who managed to get a complete set of T44E5 parts.

Either way 1200$ is way too much, just a few bucks shy of an lrb barreled action. Someone must have wanted that thing really bad
