Question Bipods & mounts for n.m.

Anyone have any advice on Bipods & Mounts? Have been looking at Mount that replaces sling attachment, don't have a clue on Bipods, never used one before. Any advice would be appreciated, want to do this right the first time. Thanks

It depends on what surface you want to shoot on. Prone. Bench. Always a flat surface? Are you going to be trekking around with it?

I got a mid-end Harris and I'm not especially happy with it. My search is currently suspended cuz the weather and cold I'm simply not shooting much. The M14 is a heavy gun (mine is a modern and it's crazy heavy) and I tend to lean into it and I'm crazy heavy, and the gun has a fair amount of recoil. Since I shoot on a bench, I'm likely going to be looking at the higher-end flat-foot bipods.

Also, this something to think about. I'm fairly tall, so I need to raise my bipod a long ways to get it comfortable. Which causes the legs to flex more because...well, they are elongated and physics and such. There are bipods with plastic legs for weight, aluminum, not sure if there are any steel. My gun is so heavy now it doesn't matter.

It really depends on what you want.

Not much trekking, got hunting rifles for that. Mainly shooting from bench, then prone. Thanks for the input. I have always used a bag, jacket, cooler, whatever was available. getting older now, hopefully wiser. Thanks again.

Harris is the choice for most people. I bought their top model for my M4 and it lasted through a deployment minus a little rust. The EBR M14 also has them standard, but have a tendency to bend and wear through the leg itself when folded up. I have 3 sets(spring loaded, swivel, standard) and they work fine under NORMAL conditions. I recommend that you just keep a light coat of oil on them and be gentle when folding the legs to prevent damage. Not a bad set for + or -$100

I also have a set of GG&G that are absolutely amazing. Very well made with great materials. I love how the legs lock in place and don't feel nearly as cheap as the Harris. I would recommend to anyone that has the money to spend.

The guys over at snipershide seem to love these Atlas bipods: http://www.botachtactical.com/gg12heduxdss.html
I'll probably try a set once I can find it for under $200.

Atlas and GG&G are the 2 I've mostly gravitated towards.

Greetings,

I installed VersaPod short rails (they replace the front sling swivel) on all my M14s. Something to consider is Sadlak came out with a version of the short rail mount that has received very good reviews here. It wasn't available when I had done mine. Anything made by Sadlak is top quality. I have one GGG bi-pod that I swap around as needed. I've used Harris bi-pods, but don't think they are of the same quality as the GGG type. Good luck!

Regards, Jim

If you're willing to spend $300-$330, mod the stock with a Seekins SRS or Accu-Shot BT12/BT17 pic rail and buy an Atlas bipod.

If $100 is your price range, you'll be fine with a Harris S-BRM 6-9" with a lock lever (www.t-nuts.com sell great ones at a great price)
