one tip i can give you is that you will want to use a one piece cleaning rod and a muzzle guard (correct name?) when cleaning to protect the muzzle and barrel.

good luck with the new rifle, post pics when it arrives.
Why do I need a muzzle guard when there is a flash hider on it? And how is a soft aluminum segmented rod going to wear out a steel barrel? I don't understand people's paranoia about cleaning methods.

Thanks from deces

I never bought a weapon that included a cleaning kit regardless of price from $4,500 sniper rifle to a $20.00 wrist rocket. Would be nice to get an Otis kit with some of the rifles though.

you should get a piece of paper with a list of items that sa sells

it offers you a discount of about 25% (if i remember correctly)
for various tools, cleaning kit, patches, slings, cheek pads etc

you get three months to send it in (so you can get over the
shock of the price of buying the gun)

it may save you a few dollars and it is a nice gesture

you should find it with the papers that come with the gun

hope this helps

You don't want a steel
USGI cleaning rod down your barrel unless you need to use it. Bore snake for loose crud Otis with brass parts for real cleaning. Remember from chamber to crown for the best cleaning.

The existing flash hider cannot "guide" the rod like a bore-guide can and thus cannot help keep a cleaning rod from possibly damaging the barrels crown or bore.
The muzzle guard will help keep the cleaned rod from contacting the muzzle crown/bore and "sawing, sanding, peening, or scraping" it as the user works the rod back and forth.
An aluminum rod can become imbedded with various hard materials which then tend to make such rods act like sandpaper on crowns and barrels.
Something like a Dewey brand one piece cleaning rod - which also has a bearing in the handle so the rod can spin with the rifling as it is worked back and forth - tends to be much less likely to cause harm to bores and crowns and it too should be used with a bore-guide as final insurance to keep both it and the bore in good shape on a semi-auto or any other weapon.
I find it is easy to keep a Dewey type rod clean by just periodically wiping it with a paper towel while it is in use and before storing it between uses. Mine have lasted for decades and that makes the small increased cost of them not significant in my own mind.

none else has mentioned this but when you buy a national match , your not supposed to take it apart. you will lose the accuracy. Perhaps someone with more experience can expand on this.

Especially when you first get it don't take it the action out of the stock. theres no reason to (you can clean the gas system without removing the action. Get the sadlak drill sets for m14, they are on amazon).

Run a bore snake like the people have said.

At least the sellers were honest not pretending to give something of value away for free.Just dont happen with any product IME.No disrespect intended,
just friendly disagreement/discussion.
What you do get for free these days from Remington (*esp. their long-standing Rem 700, for which they have no excuse) is a really bad trigger, usually set by the factory at a mind-numbing 5 - 7 lb, and with the adjust screws locked down with a tamper-telling sealing material (I use the same stuff, so I can adjust their new-style triggers as low as is safely possible[≈ 4-5 or 5.0 lb!] and then reseal it!). You can also replace just the spring with one from an older trigger, or better yet, replace the trigger with at the least a take-out fron an older rem 700 rifle.

But please know this: Remington has also shortened the trigger weight spring on their later old-style trigger models (it might well have one of their new better-design trigger groups, with which I admit to having exactly ZERO experience with).

So you'll be happily dialing the weight down, but at about 4.0 lbs, the spring is no longer in contact with anything! It's just rattling around in there! A very dangerous condition; no pressure on the sear for engagement at all! and then: KA-BOOM; and your hunting partner's now dead!

So, you have to supply your own "free" Timney or RifleBasix, or ...best idea? Buy a Sako 85 to begin with. Or a good used Sako 75, or older twin lug Sako or a Tikka. That will also send those Remington bean-counters a good message!

I see 1saltygrunt's point, You're spending a lot of money on that NM. It's worth it but, it feels good to have something sweeten the deal. It is nice to get that "coupon", but let's face it, I know SA's profit margin is obscene too.

IMO, it wouldn't hurt SA to throw in a USGI kit and a muti tool........and a sling, for that matter.

Btw, most pistols come with hardshell case, extra mag and lock,,,, some come with all that and holster and mag loader.
