Is that a new rifle? Springfield Armory has always used GI parts when they are available. Having an H&R trigger group is a good thing. I have a pre ban Springfield that has all TRW parts, except the barrel.

You'd be lucky if that trigger group is all H&R....housing, hammer, safety...

That trigger group is a score. Way better than a reproduction SAI unit. What are the markings on the Hammer?

Yes ! It was bought new in Ohio several yrs ago , only two mags through it. Shortly after the purchase of the M1A, I got into the Garand where I learned a great deal in the forums . So, it was a safe queen for a short time. My son & I was going through the safe not long ago, I pulled it out, torn it down and was surprised to find the H&R trigger gp. I just thought since the M1A from Springfield Armory Inc. should be all correct. I paid a great deal for it new and I guess I expected a parts correct M1A.

Welcome and dont be mad about that be happy having a H&R trigger group is good. The GI trigger groups like yours are far supperior to the new ones that SA Inc. make. I was luck and got a H&R trigger group as well as a TRW bolt, so be glad you have what you have.
Good Shooting.

OH, I am not complaining, not at all. Thx for all the input. Guess I should spend a little time gathering info on the M1A now along with the Garand.

Your Springfield Armory M1A is manufactured by Springfield Armory Inc. NO relationship to the original military armory in Springfield Mass. It is a commercial company. They did sell M1As with mostly GI parts as long as the supply held up.The supply of GI parts is drying up and now they put cast junk in. So,as said above,,having an H&R TG,,that's a good thing.

You need to rush right out and buy a lottery ticket with your good luck.

Count your blessings, at least you have the assurance that your trigger group is good to go.

Does your rifles flash suppressor have a bayonet lug and is your barrel chrome lined, if so who made it? If so your rifle is probably a preban (pre Sept 94) which is even better.

Thanks from Seventh Fleet

when i got my first SAI m1A i took it to my shop where my buddy is a M1A fan and he broke it down to show me how to take apart and clean etc. he was like "dude! this thing is almost all GI !" dont sell it. ive been happy with it since. my next M1A rifle wasnt GI and i have been gradually finding G! parts. my 3rd M1A socom is not GI

ive been acquiring more guns lately not focused on GI parts

I got an older M1a Supermatch a few years ago that was almost all USGI.

Between my 'Smithing and Springfields', it got the needed TLC it was missing.

WOW, the old ones can shoot great. Whether it's the USGI Parts or the olde world craftsmanship from many moons ago, SAI has had some very nice M1A's.

I believe mine was the near the end of the Glenn Nelson Era at SAI and could explain its' heritage.
