New Build

A M14 stock and fiberglass handguard is in shipment. My son has a FFL, so what receiver and barrel manufacturer would you suggest?

My canned response, and personal preference, LRB and Krieger.

Oh and how about a CMP parts kit. The only thing left would be a bolt. The LRB bolts are said to be up to GI standards. Enjoy!

I would opt on the Criterion Or Krieger Barrel with LRB Receiver & their Bolt as well. Order the barreled receiver and you know it's built right and covered under warranty. Not that you need to be worried but they will only work on Barreled actions assembled by them. Top quality worry free product.

Good luck!

What's your budget and what do you want to do with it?

This is like saying, "I'm gonna buy a new truck what do you recommend?"

The LRB Krieger route is the most expensive way to go. No doubt it makes a fine gun. You can easily put 3 grand in it this way with no scope.

Who is going to build it? There are so many things to consider.

By the way you need atleast 2 of these. One with a long barrel and one with a short one. Just so you can see how different they are.

I agree with Memphis on most. You really " need" two of each type of barrel. You know 1 M25 and 1 M14sa in each barrel configuration. Sure is nice to have my kids through college.

Thanks for the response. Together with what's been said here, and talking to local dealers, the concensus is LRB receiver and bolt. I'll have to look into the CMP parts kit.

To answer your questions: My son and I will be building it, buying parts when funds are available, and initial use will be solely at the range. After that, we'll see where it takes us.

1: If on a budget, Fulton receiver, CMP parts kit, Criterion GI profile barrel, LRB bolt.

2: If price is no object, LRB receiver, Kregier barrel (any contour), CMP parts kit, LRB bolt

3: If price is no object with a dedicated scope setup; same as option 2 but with an LRB M25 receiver.

Tony.
