Boyds inletted stock, 7.62mm receiver, Wolfe SS Med weight.

I thought I'd post some information on my new build. One reason is I couldn't find any informatation anywhere on what a Boyds inletted stock looked like so I attached pics for forum users future reference. I bought it on sale for under $100 and overall it looks pretty good. The liner fits nice and the gun centers nicely. Not too fat, not too thin. It should make bedding go quicker.

The Wolfe SS modified medium weight barrel arrived this week. Timed 45 degrees short and torqued up no problem. A nice looking, well machined piece that is currently on sale.

I lapped in a NOS TRW bolt to the 7.62mm receiver. Last time this combination lapped in easily, this time I spent about 45 minutes lapping in the bolt to get the left lug contact up to 50%+. Not sure if the bolt or receiver was slightly off but it wasn't any big deal.

After lapping the bolt it looks like the headspace is about .002 or .003 short. With slight pressure I can close the bolt on a 1.630 gauge. (anybody out there have a 308 match reamer I can use to cut that last .003?)

The rest of the parts are from a CMP parts kit I blasted and reparked. I always question the $600 price tag but this is the third kit I've bought and all the parts are in spec and I like having GI parts. You could maybe piece it together cheaper but the money goes to a good cause and it's easier to get most of the parts you need at one time IMHO.

It'll be another couple months or so until I finish my new project. Too many projects ahead of it and I need to study up on bedding a M14 (I haven't bedded one yet).

Thanks for the pics, I had wondered what the Boyds stocks looked like. Jon Wolfe is building my next M14 with one of his stainless barrels. Good luck with the rest of your build.

Nice pics. I have a stock like that but I think mine was intended to be bedded only. Any action is rather loose in it. I hope to learn how to bed one of these days and I'll use it when I do its a great looking stock like yours.
keep up the good work. No match reamer sorry.

Is the Boyds stock a current listing. I found a part # 200-929 and was curious if that is a mid weight or a heavy weight stock? A GI M14 stock appears to be smaller than yours.......
